We’ve had our Education issues in August & January for a long time. I got the idea to add Lifelong Learning and thus we have both in our current August issue.
Our area has lots of great post-secondary schools and many have programs specially designed for working professionals or those wanting to earn another degree to advance their careers.
What is so amazing is that we have so many people here going back to “school” to have FUN. That means Pierian Spring, Longboat Education Center, ACE (part of

SCTI) SILL (Sarasota Institute of Lifelong Learning) and Lifelong Learning Academy (LLA).
So it comes as no surprise we have Janna Overstreet on our cover. She’s the Executive Director at LLA. Janna is marking her first anniversary at LLA and she’s made lots of exciting changes which you can find out about by reading her profile click here or find in the WCW print edition.
And I haven’t even mentioned all the wonderful places offering acting or art classes, lectures and various presentations. For that, you’ll have to read WCW as we go in to the busy season. Our next Education & Lifelong Learning Issue will be January 2015…

Join us for ARTSY AUGUST!
Join us for another night of celebrating the Arts in Sarasota! Artsy August is back and at beautiful Hotel Indigo on Wed., August 27, 5-7 p.m.
Here’s your opportunity to visit and talk with representatives from area arts organization like The Sarasota Opera, Sarasota Ballet, Asolo Theatre, Sarasota Orchestra and more. Find out what’s coming up this season!
This event is free and is co-produced by West Coast Woman and Hotel Indigo. The Hotel is generously offering complimentary light bites and there will be a cash bar.

Every Thursday night the Sarasota Tea Company/The Tea House offers tea and an Open Mic from 7:30 to 10 p.m.
Bring you and your talent – poetry, singing, musical instruments or as owner Jill calls it, your “anything goes.”
Sarasota Tea Company is located at 1869 Fruitville Rd., Sarasota (in one of those cute 1920’s era cottages on north Fruitville Rd.).

Storytelling Open Mic Aug. 28
This unique open mic focuses on storytelling-not poetry or music. Instead, come and share your finest prose or, if you’re just in the mood for listening, enjoy the creativity from area wordsmiths.
The event will be held at Fogartyville, 525 Kumquat Court, Sarasota. Doors open at 6:30; reading begins around 7 p.m.
A featured reader will start things off followed by open mic slots. You have 10 minutes to share your creativity!
No admission but $5 is the suggested donation.

The American Cancer Society has asked us to promote an event that Rosa Fiorelli Winery in Bradenton is having. On August 16 & 17 they’re having a “Stomp out Cancer” event timed for their August Harvest Festival.
Enjoy grape stomping, wine tasting, food trucks, games for kids. Free admission and parking. Donations go to the American Cancer Society.
