LOS ANGELES, CA – AUGUST 13, 2020 – ScreenCraft, the screenwriting education, and talent-discovery organization, will be holding a free webinar on skills for pitching Film and Television that is open to the public, as a kickoff event for ScreenCraft’s just-announced Virtual Pitch Competition. The Webinar, entitled “Your Best Pitch: Skills for Pitching Film & TV,” will stream for free on ScreenCraft’s Facebook page and via Zoom on Tuesday, August 18, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. PT. Over 1,400 people are already registered. To register, click here.
The panel will be Wendy Calhoun, TV Writer, and Showrunner (PRODIGAL SON, STATION 19, EMPIRE, NASHVILLE, JUSTIFIED), Amy Retzinger, Literary Agent, and Partner, Verve Talent Agency, and Marc Manus, Literary Manager and Partner, World Builder Entertainment. The moderator will be Emily Dell, ScreenCraft Head of Education & Outreach.
The webinar will focus on structuring a great pitch, grabbing your audience early, teasing the story, and encapsulating key themes. The speakers will share sample pitches and stories from their best and worst pitches, advice, and how-tos. This webinar will help all writers improve their ability to succinctly and successfully present their work, with the added benefit of preparation for those who choose to submit to ScreenCraft’s Virtual Pitch Competition, a just-announced talent discovery program in its inaugural year.
The VIP Jury for ScreenCraft’s Virtual Pitch Competition is Wendy Calhoun, Amy Retzinger, and Marc Manus, with Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Eric Heisserer (ARRIVAL, BLOODSHOT, LIGHTS OUT). The competition gives writers from across the globe the opportunity to submit a pitch live (virtually) and receive feedback from the VIP Jury. Submissions for written pitches are open now, with the final deadline Sept 30, 2020. The top100 submissions will submit a filmed video pitch, and the top 10 finalists will be selected to pitch live at the Finals Event on November 18, 2020.
The Virtual Pitch Competition and “Your Best Pitch” Panel are two elements of the 2020 ScreenCraft Writers Summit, a three-day conference dedicated to the business and craft of writing for Film, TV, and short-form content. The Writers Summit has held a successful Pitch Competition every year, with winners signed with representation. With the 2020 conference cancellation due to COVID-19, The Virtual Pitch Competition moves this event into the virtual world, allowing writers worldwide to participate from the comfort and safety of their homes. Next year the Writers Summit will be held April 25-28, 2021, in Chicago, IL. Early registration is now open, and partners include the Writers Guild Foundation, Chicago Film Office, Final Draft, Roadmap Writers, and more.
“Writers worldwide have been able to continue their work and learn, even during quarantine, but we heard over and over an eagerness for opportunities to present their work to Film and Television industry leaders,” said Emily Dell, ScreenCraft Director of Education and Outreach. “This competition brings the success of our live Pitch Competition, from our conference, into the virtual world. It’s our chance to celebrate great stories and fantastic pitches, we are very excited!”
The Panel “Your Best Pitch: Pitching for Film and TV” on August 18th is free for the public, with advance registration. The Pitch Competition has an early submission fee of $25.
