ZHU and Tinashe collaborate on the haunting new single “ONLY,” released today by Astralwerks. The searing interplay between the two distinctive vocalists fuels a song that spans the spectrum from loneliness to connection, quiet to frenzy, darkness to light. Written and produced by both ZHU and Tinashe, “ONLY” is available for download / streaming HERE.
Set against the backdrop of the global lockdown, the official music video for “ONLY” explores the connection between isolation and voyeurism, as viewers look in on ZHU and Tinashe, each alone in a downtown loft. The clip was directed by Jack Murgatroyd (Coldplay, Flume, ODESZA), who also helmed ZHU’s “Came For The Low” video. View “ONLY” HERE.

“ONLY” is ZHU’s first release since officially signing to Astralwerks earlier this year. It follows his late 2019 collaboration with partywithray, “Came For The Low,” which was released by the label. Watch for ZHU’s performance of “ONLY” at 8:30 pm PT tonight during EDC Las Vegas Virtual Rave-A-Thon. The three-night livestream event can be viewed on tv.insomniac.com. An exclusive t-shirt designed by ZHU for the event will be for sale during the livestream. All net proceeds from the exclusive t-shirt sales will go to CREW NATION, a global relief fund for live music crews. ZHU is the latest content creator for Luminosity Gaming, the world-class esports and digital media organization arm of Enthusiast Gaming. Last night, he streamed an exclusive online charity concert in collaboration with fellow Luminosity creator and recently crowned Twitch Streamer of the Year at this year’s Shorty Awards, Harley “MrFreshAsian” Campbell. |

Since emerging from the underground in 2014, ZHU has brought a cinematic sense of world-building to his music. Born Steven Zhu and raised in the Bay Area, he began playing piano at a young age. After making his debut with “Moves Like Ms. Jackson”—a 2014 release that drew widespread attention despite ZHU’s deliberately concealing his identity—ZHU dropped his debut EP The Nightday and soon earned a GRAMMY® Award nomination for Best Dance Recording for his breakthrough single “Faded.” Arriving in 2016, his debut album Generationwhy found ZHU illuminating his emotional life to a greater degree, in part by adding more of his lithe vocal work to the album’s channeling of desert psychedelia.
