| The Apalachicola River, which begins at the Florida-Georgia border, is home to some of the best fishing in Florida; it’s also home to a productive tupelo honey industry and, of course, famed Apalachicola oysters come from the estuary the river feeds. This week, Dr. Joann Mossa, a physical geography professer from the University of Florida, will join us during our free think + drink / science for a look at this river and how it has changed over time.
During “Impacts, Recovery, and Ongoing Stressors in the Apalachicola River, Florida,” Dr. Mossa will talk about the impacts to the Apalachicola from navigational dredging and droughts exacerbated by upstream water consumption. She’ll also discuss how the river is recovering now that dredging has ended and there is a dedicated conservation corridor.
