Principal Pops Conductor Jack Everly extends contract with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra through 2022-2023 season
Everly’s contract extended to his 20th anniversary season with the ISO as Principal Pops Conductor
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra (ISO) proudly announces that its Principal Pops Conductor Jack Everly has agreed to extend his commitment as the leader of the Orchestra’s pops programming through the 2022-2023 season. In 2023, Everly will mark his 20-year anniversary of ISO pops artistic leadership in Indianapolis.
“This great state, city and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra are home to me,” said Jack Everly, commenting on his contract extension. “I’m very proud and honored to have been asked to stay, create, celebrate and perform with the musicians in this orchestra and for the patrons of our wonderful community, all whom I consider part of my musical family. From now until 2023, I look forward to bringing even more glorious, full-orchestra power to the pops and Broadway genre in Indianapolis.”
Born in Richmond, Indiana, Everly graduated from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and began his career with the prestigious American Ballet Theatre and on Broadway, teaming up with acclaimed artists such as Marvin Hamlisch and Carol Channing. In 1994, Everly became Music Director of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra’s Yuletide Celebration, and in 2002, he assumed the role of Principal Pops Conductor with the ISO. Highlights of Everly’s career in Indianapolis include:
- Symphonic premieres and critically-acclaimed performances of Anything Goes: In Concert, On Broadway with Kander & Ebb, Guys & Dolls, Do You Hear the People Sing?: The Music of Boublil and Schönberg, Hello Dolly!, Irving Berlin: From Ragtime to Ritzes and Hairspray: In Concert.
- Yuletide Celebration, now the largest, symphonic holiday production of its kind in North America. Each year, Yuletide attracts more than 40,000 patrons and has featured many notable artists as hosts including Tony Award-winning actress Judy Kaye, Broadway’s “Phantom” Ted Keegan, Grammy Award-winning soprano Sylvia McNair and award-winning vocalist Sandi Patty, among others.
- Everly’s Symphonic Pops Consortium in 1999, which creates innovative pops shows with original orchestral charts and arrangements, costuming, lighting and other production elements that premiere in Indianapolis and travel to major orchestras throughout the U.S. and Canada, including the Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall.

In addition to his post in Indianapolis, he serves as Principal Pops Conductor with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Canada’s capital city of Ottawa, and he recently renewed his contract as Pops Conductor of the Naples Philharmonic. In 2010, Maestro Everly was named Music Director for the National Symphony Orchestra’s National Memorial Day Concert and A Capitol Fourth, two of PBS’ highest-rated programs that air live from the west lawn of the U.S. Capitol.

About Jack Everly
Jack Everly is the Principal Pops Conductor of the Indianapolis and Baltimore Symphony Orchestras, Naples Philharmonic Orchestra and the National Arts Centre Orchestra (Ottawa). He has conducted the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl, The New York Pops at Carnegie Hall and appears regularly with The Cleveland Orchestra at Blossom Music Center. In the 2013-14 Season he will debut with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and the Philadelphia Orchestra at The Mann Center. This year Maestro Everly will conduct over 90 performances in more than 20 North American cities.
As Music Director of the National Memorial Day Concert and A Capitol Fourth on PBS, Maestro Everly proudly leads the National Symphony Orchestra in these patriotic celebrations on the National Mall. These concerts attract hundreds of thousands attendees on the lawn and the broadcasts reach millions of viewers and are some of the very highest rated programming on PBS television.
Mr. Everly is the also Music Director of Duke Energy Yuletide Celebration, now a 27-year tradition. He led the ISO in its first Pops recording, Yuletide Celebration, Volume One, that included three of his own orchestrations Some of his other recordings include In The Presence featuring the Czech Philharmonic and Daniel Rodriguez ,Sandi Patty’s Broadway Stories, the soundtrack to Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Everything’s Coming Up Roses: The Complete Overtures Of Jule Styne.
Originally appointed by Mikhail Baryshnikov, Mr. Everly was conductor of the American Ballet Theatre for 14 years, where he served as Music Director. In addition to his ABT tenure, he teamed with Marvin Hamlisch on Broadway shows that Mr. Hamlisch scored. He conducted Carol Channing hundreds of times in Hello, Dolly! in two separate Broadway productions.
In 1998, Jack Everly created the Symphonic Pops Consortium, serving as Music Director. The Consortium, based in Indianapolis, produces new theatrical pops programs, including this season’s On Broadway with Kander & Ebb. In the past 12 years, more than 250 performances of SPC programs have taken place across the U.S. and Canada.
Maestro Everly, a graduate of the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, holds an Honorary Doctorate of Arts from Franklin College in his home state of Indiana. He is a proud resident of the Indianapolis community for over 12 years and when not on the podium you can find Maestro Everly at home with his family which includes Max the wonder dog.
