6th Annual Grateful Dead Meet-Up ‘Head’ed to Select U.S. Movie Theaters With Previously Unreleased Concert From Sullivan Stadium in 1989

Fathom Events and Rhino Entertainment Continue Annual “Meet-Up at the Movies” with a Special One-Night Showing of a Classic Concert on May 11

DENVER – April 6, 2016 – Legendary rock band, the Grateful Dead, comes back to the big screen for the 6th annual event, “Grateful Dead Meet-Up at the Movies 2016,” presented by Fathom Events and Rhino Entertainment on Wednesday, May 11 at 7:00 p.m. local time. This special cinema event features the previously unreleased Grateful Dead concert from Sullivan Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts on July 2, 1989. It captures the Grateful Dead (Jerry Garcia, Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh, Brent Mydland and Bob Weir), as the band opens their tour in front of a sell-out crowd of more than 60,000 fans. Audiences will also enjoy a special interview with Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux on the making of the upcoming 12-disc July 1978: The Complete Recordings boxed set as well as previously unseen performance footage with Dead & Company (featuring Hart, Kreutzmann, Weir, singer/guitarist John Mayer, Allman Brothers’ bassist Oteil Burbridge, and “Fare Thee Well” and RatDog keyboardist Jeff Chimenti).

Tickets for “Grateful Dead Meet-Up at the Movies 2016” can be purchased beginning Wednesday, April 6, 2016 online by visiting www.FathomEvents.com or at participating theater box offices. Fans throughout the U.S. will be able to enjoy the event in more than 400 movie theaters through Fathom’s Digital Broadcast Network. For a complete list of theater locations visit the Fathom Events website (theaters and participants are subject to change).

The “Meet-Up” serves as a yearly opportunity for lifelong Dead Heads to reconnect as well as a chance for new fans to experience the exhilaration of what it would have been like to see one of the Dead’s legendary live shows. This year’s concert is a bona fide Dead classic, as it kicks-off with a very rare show-opener, “Playing In The Band,” and features the only time the band started a second set with “Friend Of The Devil.” The concert also includes a spectacular performance of “Wang Dang Doodle,” one of the band’s finest sing-along versions of “Tennessee Jed,” two Bob Dylan covers (“Queen Jane Approximately” and “Quinn The Eskimo”) along with a medley of Traffic’s “Dear Mr. Fantasy” segued into the Beatles’ “Hey Jude.” Also featured is a sequence that will bring you back to The Dead, circa 1973: “Truckin’”> “He’s Gone”> “Eyes Of The World.”

Fathom Events CEO John Rubey said, “We love that Fathom gets to be a part of giving Dead Heads the opportunity to ‘Meet Up’ and experience rare footage of their favorite band –all on the big screen- year after year.”

Following the tremendous success of the band’s 2015 tour, Dead & Company is launching its highly-anticipated 2016 tour on Friday, June 10 in Charlotte, NC. The cross-county tour runs through Saturday, July 30 at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, CA. For more information, visit www.DeadandCompany.com
