DINOSAURS IN MOTION COMING TO MOSI

Massive Metal Dinosaurs That You Control

Blend Art and Science, Showing S.T.E.A.M. Principles in Action

Tampa, FL – January 21, 2016 – Snap the jaws of a T. rex, flap the fins of a Plesiosaur, and control millions of years at your fingertips as the Museum of Science & Industry presents Dinosaurs in Motion. Art and science collide in this amazing limited engagement, opening Saturday, January 30.

Dinosaurs in Motion is the most interactive dinosaur exhibit to ever come to Tampa Bay. Using gears and levers, visitors take control of life-size, massive metal skeletons – including a 44-foot-long T. rex. Inside each steel sculpture, visitors can watch the mechanical parts at work as the dinosaurs move, showing S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Mathematics) principles in action.

Admission to Dinosaurs in Motion is free to MOSI members and included with a general admission ticket. In an experience available only at MOSI, on many days, visitors will be able to get up close as master artists repair and refine the sculptures in a “maker space” that is open to all visitors.

Please touch the exhibits! With the ability to manipulate dinosaurs with lever and pulley systems, as well as with remote controls, MOSI visitors will interact with dinosaurs on a scale that is unprecedented in a museum setting. Visitors also will be able to create their own art and science projects with hands-on activities at Innovation Stations.

Dinosaurs in Motion weaves science, art, and innovation themes throughout and touches on each of these educational topics at each sculpture. Art portions highlight sketching, drawing, and sculpting; science segments explore kinetics, biomechanics, and robotics; and innovation areas encourage observing and experimenting.

“It’s an awesome way to get everyone engaged in S.T.E.A.M. education, without ever feeling like they’re being ‘taught’ something! With Dinosaurs in Motion, you’re controlling the collision of science and art, and adding your own creativity to the mix,” said MOSI President and CEO Molly Demeulenaere (pronounced “De-mew-len-air”).

A moving, human element to the exhibition comes from the story of the artist, John Payne, who dedicated thousands of hours to turning recycled materials into works of art. Through video and interaction, visitors follow Payne’s path as an apprentice and walk away with Payne’s inspiring message: “If you can dream it, you can do it.”

“We are excited to partner with MOSI to present these incredible works of art in a tactile way that really speaks to the most important educational topics in our culture,” said Tom Zaller, CEO and President of Imagine Exhibitions. “Dinosaurs in Motion is the most unique dinosaur exhibition touring right now. No other exhibition using the dinosaur brand offers this level of interactivity in the areas of S.T.E.A.M.”

Following a MOSI member preview event on January 29, Dinosaurs in Motion will be open to the public daily from January 30 through May 8, 2016. Tickets are available at mosi.org.
