Thursday, September 24, 2015 // Toronto, ON – Born from the imagination of author and musician Dave Bidini, Torn From the Pages is an evening where the worlds of books and music collide; a fusion of prose and melody based on the work of a single author.
Massey Hall is pleased to announce the full lineup of writers and musicians for the fifth installment of Torn from the Pages, which will celebrate the works of Governor General Literary Award winner, Nino Ricci: Nobu Adilman, Tony Dekker (Great Lake Swimmers), Oh Susanna,
Corin Raymond, Lucas Silveira and Michael Winter. Each will perform newly-commissioned songs, stories, poems and more evoked and inspired by Ricci’s latest novel, Sleep. Ricci, too, will participate, reading his own work as part of the proceedings.
The challenge of his latest novel, Ricci told the Globe and Mail, is how to “hit people over the head in a way that will maybe shake them a bit…’” If he achieved his goal of shaking up the writers and musicians gathered for this edition of Torn, there’s no telling what these new works will do, in turn, to audiences.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Nobu Adilman
Nobu Adilman co-founded Choir! Choir! Choir!, programs Festival Street at the Toronto International Film Festival, and has hosted and written for several CBC Television series. Adilman will be reciting a written piece for this instalment of Torn from the Pages.
Dave Bidini
Creator and host of Torn from the Pages, Dave Bidini was a founding member of Canadian rock band Rheostatics, and currently performs with Bidiniband. He has written 12 books, and is the only Canadian to have been nominated for all three of Canada’s main entertainment awards– the Gemini, the Genie, and the JUNO– as well as appearing twice on Canada Reads.
Tony Dekker
Tony Dekker is the singer-songwriter behind Toronto’s Great Lake Swimmers, an indie folk group featuring a blend of acoustic instruments, rural soundscapes and wistful lyrics. This past July, Great Lake Swimmer performed as part of the Live at Massey Hall series, watch the film here.
Oh Susanna
Suzie Ungerleider began performing as Oh Susanna in the mid-1990s, crafting a persona that matched the timeless qualities of her music, sounds that drew from the deep well of early 20th-century folk, country and blues, yet rooted in her finely-honed storytelling skills.
Corin Raymond
Corin Raymond has toured Canada from coast to coast, and has played weekly at The Cameron House in Toronto, with his band The Sundowners, for ten years. The Globe & Mail calls his most recent album Paper Nickels “a live album that couldn’t be more ‘Made in Canada’ if it was scented with maple syrup, shipped by beavers and came with thimbles of Stompin’ Tom Connors’ blood.”
Nino Ricci
Since his first novel, bestseller Lives of the Saints, Nino Ricci has won two Governor General’s Awards, been recognized with the Order of Canada for his contributions to literature, and his novels have appeared on 9 Best Book lists. His latest novel, Sleep, was published on September 22, 2015.
Lucas Silveira
Lucas Silveira is best known as the frontman for rock band The Cliks and has toured extensively alongside acts such as Cyndi Lauper, The Cult, The New York Dolls, Debbie Harry and Tegan and Sara as well as having appeared on major talk shows including Late Late Night with Craig Ferguson and Jimmy Kimmel.
Michael Winter
Award-winning author Michael Winter has won the Writers’ Trust Notable Author Award, and his work has been longlisted for the Scotiabank Giller Prize, the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award, the Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize, and the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize.
