NEW YORK, NY – September 9, 2015 – Each passing summer, there is an ongoing debate over the reigning ‘song of the summer’ and this year we got something even bigger with Silentó’s platinum-certified, record-breaking debut single “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae).”
With summer’s most streamed song globally, Silentó did something that only happens every once in a while with “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)”-he brought people together via song. Thousands of viral fan-generated videos have accumulated over 500 million views and counting, while the track’s official streams are nearing 500 million, bringing cumulative impressions to the one billion mark. The song’s music video sits at #1 for the eighth week in a row after earning the distinction of becoming “VEVO’s fastest video to reach 100 million views from a debut artist.” It now has 200 million YouTube/VEVO views.
In keeping with the true definition of ‘song of the summer’ you literally can’t go anywhere without hearing “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae).” On an almost daily basis, a new video featuring the song goes viral. Everybody from NBA star Steph Curry’s daughter to Hillary Clinton are getting down to the dance everywhere from weddings to Bar Mitzvahs. This is the millennial’s equivalent of the “Electric Slide” only with way more swag, style, and soul.
Expanding its cultural dominance, ABC’s Dancing With The Stars features “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)” in their latest season promo as well as Nickelodeon’s fall line-up TV spots. In addition, it recently vied for “Song of the Summer” at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards and “Choice R&B/Hip-Hop Song” at the 2015 Teen Choice Awards, causing everybody on the red carpet to start doing the dance.
On September 14, Silentó is set to perform the song on Ellen, following up a string of high-profile TV appearances including Good Morning America, LIVE with Kelly & Michael, and the BET Awards.
