On Friday 3 July Mozart’s Don Giovanni will be shown on the big screen in 20 locations across the UK from Aberdeen to Bristol. A feast for the senses, the evening is set to be the perfect opportunity to enjoy world-class opera from the Royal Opera House with a picnic and friends in the great outdoors.  For those unable to make it to a BP Big Screen or who reside overseas, there will also be a free live stream of the performance via the Royal Opera House’s YouTube channel*.

Don Giovanni is an impulsive character who travels through Europe seducing women. His carefree life takes a turn when he commits a murder. Continuing to entice women with his usual rapacity, Don Giovanni is haunted by the ghost of the murdered man and decides to invite him to dinner.

Starring Christopher Maltman as Don Giovanni, a character you love to hate, the production focuses on the power of his imagination. This whirlwind world is visualised by Es Devlin, famed for designing the London Olympics Closing Ceremony 2012 and music concerts for performers such as Kanye West, and Luke Hall whose projections bring the drama and glamour to life.

The Champagne Aria is one of Mozart’s most famous arias and can be seen here:  (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUOWb40LIuw)

*The free live online stream can only be accessed in countries that support YouTube and will only be streamed live with no catch-up facility.

BP AND ROH
BP has been the longest running supporter of the Royal Opera House, starting the relationship in 1989 with initiatives including the Schools’ Matinee programme and the Chance to Dance scheme. BP has supported the Big Screen live relays of opera and ballet performances direct from Covent Garden since 2000 and in 2012 announced its commitment to a further five years of sponsorship.  The generous ongoing support of BP has enabled the Royal Opera House to reach as many people as possible around the country with live performances, allowing them to experience the very best of opera and ballet in their home town, for free. As always, BP has combined support for the screenings with studies and analysis of the benefits of the screenings and associated education work.
