The Early Learning Coalition of Sarasota County Launches MyFirstBackpack.org
Sarasota, Florida – The HuB Agency and The Early Learning Coalition have collaborated to initiate MyFirstBackPack.org. The campaign is designed to raise funds and awareness to support children (pre K) in Sarasota County that currently live in poverty. Of the 15,000 children residing in Sarasota County, 21% of children under the age of five do not have access to high quality early learning experiences and supplies. That is approximately 3,150 kids that lack the resources to establish a solid foundation and reach their full potential in higher education and in life. “The Early Learning Coalition works together with parents to meet their child’s early learning needs, as well as those families with financial needs who are working hard to help themselves,” says Linda Mason, the Director of Child Care Connection, which is the parent services branch of the Early Learning Coalition.
”Our combined goal is simple.” says David Daly, Managing Partner of the HuB Agency. “Raise awareness and money to help kids in our community that are less fortunate.”
The ninety day campaign has goal of raising $60,000 by mid-June. Contributors have the option to give a range of denominations, and with each $20 donation the MyFirstBackpack.org program supplies a child with a backpack filled with the necessary tools for early intellectual development.
Each Backpack includes items like beginner pencils, writing tablets, crayons, washable Crayola thick classic markers, white paper, multi-colored construction paper, blunt end scissors (child size), three pronged folders, colored pencils and erasers.
“We hope it is only the beginning in providing for early learning opportunities and supplies necessary [for younger children] to enter school ready to learn and develop that foundation needed to grow and develop,” says Janet Kahn, Executive Director of The Early Learning Coalition of Sarasota County.
