Sarasota County Commissioners OK state incentives for Venice-based company

SARASOTA COUNTY – PGT Industries, a Sarasota County-based company that manufactures custom windows, doors and enclosure systems, has applied for state incentive funds as part of the Sustainable Energy Economic District (SEED) Incentive Program.
Following the unanimous approval of Sarasota County Board of County Commissioners at their Feb. 11 meeting, PGT is now eligible to receive up to $300,000 in incentives. These funds have been made available by the state of Florida as part of the Energy Economic Zone (EEZ) Pilot Program. The program is intended to help communities cultivate green economic development, encourage renewable electric energy generation and promote the manufacturing of products that contribute to energy conservation and green jobs.

As a result of being one of two communities selected to participate in the state’s EEZ pilot, Sarasota County has up to $300,000 in state incentives available in any fiscal year. The funds are performance-based and have no impact on the county’s budget.

Founded in 1980, PGT is the leading manufacturer and supplier of residential impact-resistant windows and doors. It employs approximately 1,700 full-time employees at its manufacturing facility in Venice.
