Funny Girls and Dynamic Divas, a comedy and music cabaret . Performance of comedy and song follows the reception, silent auction and pop up boutique.
Complimentary hors d’oeuvres and desserts, donated by local restaurants and caterers, will be served during the reception and intermission.


Hosted by leading Funny Girl Elvira Kurt, R&B Diva Jully Black, comedy legend Sandra Shamas, worldly song styles of jazz songstress             
Amanda Martinez and this year’s Juno Award winner soprano saxophonist, flautist and pianist Jane Bunnett.

Biographical Information
Elvira Kurt is one of Canada’s most accomplished comedians. She was voted Funniest Female Comic at the Canadian Comedy Awards and received a Gemini-nomination for her one-hour comedy special Elvira Kurt: I’m A Big Girl Now. The Second City alumnus’ comedy specials have aired on Comedy Central, HBO, Showtime, CTV, CBC and The Comedy Network.


Sandra Shamas is one of Canada’s most celebrated comic artists, she came into her own as a performer, writer and producer in the mid 1980s with My Boyfriend’s Back and There’s Gonna Be Laundry. Two more Laundry plays followed, each playing to sold-out houses across Canada; the trilogy was eventually published and shortlisted for the Governor General’s Award and the Stephen Leacock Award for Humour. Sandra won a Gemini Award in 1991 for Best Performance in Comedy, and won the Best Theatre Award at the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in March 2003.  Sandra has been busy touring her latest show WITíS END III: LOVE LIFE.


Jully Black is a celebrated Canadian R&B singer-songwriter and actress. In her many years of musical relevance the Toronto native has collaborated with such artists as Nas, Saukrates, Choclair, Kardinal Offishall, Destiny’s Child and Sean Paul.  Black has also lent her talents to television, acting as a correspondent on the sixth season of Canadian Idol, hosting the 2008 Canadian Radio Music Awards, and acting as a celebrity reporter for CTV’s popular entertainment magazine etalk.


Amanda Martinez is a Toronto-based singer/songwriter whose solo work, including her latest album “Mañana”, has earned her three Latin Jazz Artist of the Year nominations at Canada’s National Jazz Awards. A former radio host on Canada’s JAZZFM91, Martinez was recently named on the Minister of National Revenue’s list of the Top 10 Most Influential Hispanic Canadians list.


Jane Bunnett, internationally acclaimed musician and multiple Juno Award-winner, has showcased some of the finest talent from Canada, the U.S. and Cuba. She has been nominated for Grammy Awards, numerous Juno Awards and was honoured with an appointment to the Order of Canada. Her exploration of Afro-Cuban melodies expresses the universality of music and her ability to embrace and showcase the rhythms and culture of Cuba has been ground-breaking. She has toured the world bringing her own special sound to numerous jazz festivals, displaying her versatility as a flutist, saxophone player and pianist.


All proceeds from the event will support programs at Sistering.
