About The World Music Awards
The World Music Awards were founded in Monte-Carlo in 1989 under the High Patronage of Prince Albert II of Monaco and have showcased some of the greatest performers of all time, including Michael Jackson, who performed for the last time on TV with Beyoncé and Rihanna at the 2006 WMAs in London. This year’s Awards will take place in Monte-Carlo just after the Monaco Grand Prix and Cannes Film Festival where the whole of the Entertainment Industry will be. The best-selling most popular recording artists from every major record-buying country will be celebrated on one night at this Musical Olympics.
The Awards will air on NBC on May 28th at 8pm EST
Awards are presented on sales merit and voted by the public on the Internet. There is no jury involved and the winners are determined by the actual fans who vote and buy the records. The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) provides the organization with the names of the best-selling artists from the major record buying territories. The world’s best-selling recording artists in each category are determined by a thorough inquiry conducted by the organization that includes sales figures and record certifications over the past year. Awards for World’s Best Male Artist, Best Female, Best Group, Best Electronic Dance Music Artist, Best Entertainer of the Year, Best Live Act, Best Song, Best Album and Best Video are voted onwww.worldmusicawards.com.
The World Music Awards charitable endeavors are vast. It is the only award show that builds a hospital, school or orphanage in a place of need each year. To date, 23 WMA Centers have been built through the Monaco Aide & Presence Foundation and the Comboni Missionary Association (https://www.combonimissionaries.org), saving lives and providing shelter and education to less fortunate areas in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East. This year the World Music Awards will build a second children’s home in Haiti.
