Finally! Bach for the Millennials with a Brand NEW Chamber Series!

Washington, D.C.— Fulfilling a longtime dream, the Washington Bach Consort’s Music Director/Founder J. Reilly Lewis presents a brand new Chamber Series to explore Bach’s small-scale (but mighty in stature) works in historically-informed performances. The Chamber Series takes place at the über modern and beautiful First Congregational United Church of Christ downtown near Metro Center. The Chamber Series consists of two performances: the aptly titled The Intimate Bach on Friday, October 24, 2014 at 7 p.m. and concluding with Pinnacle Achievements—Goldberg Variations & Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 in D Major on Sunday, April 11, 2015 at 5 p.m. Meet the artists at a free reception immediately following the performances. The informality of the concerts, the stunning city venue, and reasonable prices make the Chamber Series a natural draw for young professionals.

The Intimate Bach, a program of vocal and instrumental music, features the superb artists of the Consort chorus and orchestra including soprano Laura Choi Stuart, John Moran on cello and Dr. J. Reilly Lewis on the harpsichord. In addition to a sampling of the composer’s most popular arias and choruses, including a politically incorrect paean to pipe smoking, the program also showcases some of the timeless treasures in the purely instrumental genre for solo harpsichord, solo cello and chamber ensemble.

In “Pinnacle Achievements” the keyboard is the star. J. Reilly Lewis performs the brilliantly inventive Goldberg Variations, while Associate Conductor and Keyboard Artist Todd Fickley takes charge in a performance of the 5th Brandenburg Concerto—the original prototype for all piano concertos to follow—with its famous solo harpsichord cadenza.
