EVENT MARKS VH1’S HIGHEST TENTPOLE IN 15 YEARS

 

 

NEW YORK, NY (July 13, 2016) – The network announced today that more than three million total viewers tuned in to catch Superstars including host Eve, Queen Latifah, Missy Elliott, Lil’ Kim, Salt-n-Pepa, First Lady Michelle Obama, Common, Pharrell, Puff Daddy, Timbaland, Nelly Furtado, Naughty by Nature, LL Cool J, Fantasia and more on VH1’S HIP HOP HONORS:  ALL HAIL THE QUEENS. Live for the first time in franchise history, HHH marks VH1’s highest rated tentpole in 15 years +34% over the last iteration in 2010.

 

It was also VH1’s highest rated Monday night in almost a year and the #1 cable program in its time period with women.

 

HHH dominated Monday night as the most social program on television.  The tentpole drove VH1 to its most-tweeted day of the fiscal year, with a total of 630K Tweets from 157K unique authors, up +300% from Monday norms over the prior three weeks.  HHH drove an astounding 17 Twitter Trending Topics and hit the #1 trend with #HipHopHonors which continued to trend even after the show concluded.  VH1’s first ever Facebook Live Red Carpet reached three million people, delivered over 220K live streams and 40K engagements.

 

After a six year hiatus, this year’s show celebrated the trailblazing first ladies of hip hop.  The show paid homage to the female pioneers and trend-setters who lead a movement and infiltrated the ranks of the male-dominated genre to make their voices heard and still do today.

 

Since its inception in 2004, “VH1’S HIP HOP HONORS” has recognized the luminaries who broke new ground and propelled the genre into the cultural phenomenon it has become.  From Hip Hop’s pioneers like Public Enemy and Tupac Shakur to Def Jam Records and Russell Simmons, VH1 has honored Hip Hop from its origins through the numerous phases of its musical evolution.
