Venice Theatre to hold open auditions for dark comedy
Casting two men and two women for Martin McDonagh’s The Beauty Queen of Leenane
(Venice, FL) Venice Theatre will be holding auditions on Sunday, Aug. 23 and Monday, Aug. 24 at 7:30 p.m. for its upcoming Stage II production of The Beauty Queen of Leenane. Kelly Wynn Woodland is the director of the show which will run in the Yvonne Pinkerton Theatre Nov. 5 through Nov. 22, 2015.
The Beauty Queen of Leenane is the winner of the Drama Desk, Drama League, and Outer Critics Circle Awards, and co-winner of the 1998 Lucille Lortel Award. It is written by Martin McDonagh, a playwright with whom Venice Theatre is familiar, having also produced The Pillowman and A Behanding in Spokane. Set in the mountains of Connemara, County Galway, Martin McDonagh’s script tells the darkly comic tale of Maureen Folan, a plain and lonely woman in her early forties, and Mag, her manipulative aging mother, whose interference in Maureen’s first and possibly final chance of a loving relationship sets in motion a train of events that leads inexorably towards the play’s terrifying dénouement.
Auditioners will be asked to read from the script. Ability to do an Irish dialect is a plus. Perusal scripts are available by calling 941-484-4033.
