MORE ABOUT THE SUMMER STOCK PROGRAM

VT Summer Stock began in 2007. It is a high-energy musical theatre “boot camp” where company members are immersed in all areas of the craft. The program is designed for high school and college students planning to move into the professional world of theatre. Venice Theatre strongly believes it has a responsibility to expose students to the kind of material they will face on the professional stage.  Through Summer Stock, the theatre fulfills its mandate as a theatre educator to help students transition from high school to college and beyond.

While enrolled in the program, students will develop and strengthen their singing, dancing and acting skills while also working backstage in areas such as set building, costume construction and marketing. Participants will be trained by professionals to professional standards via workshops, classes and the rehearsal process.

Students who are accepted will attend the eight-week program at the theatre Mondays – Fridays from 2 p.m. – 9 p.m. beginning the week of June 9, 2014.  The program culminates with the final performance of Cabaret on Sunday, August 10, 2014.  Brad Wages is Director and Choreographer. Michelle Kasanofsky is the Musical Director. Both instructors have been with the Summer Stock program since 2008.

In addition to working on Cabaret, this year’s “Summer Stockers” will be an integral part of the 2014 international theatre festival (aactWorldFest) technical crew and will be allowed to attend festival workshops and performances at no additional charge.

Summer Stock is a tuition-based program. The cost is $375. Scholarships are available to qualified applicants. Additional information can be found at www.venicestage.com or by calling the Education and Outreach Department at 941-486-8679.
