Venice Theatre Guild presents Annual Concert Series with music and memories from the ‘50s right through the ‘80s
(Venice FL) The Venice Theatre Guild invites audiences to stroll down memory lane when Twinkle and Rock Soul Radio take to the MainStage on Saturday, July 19, 2014. The concert is at 8 p.m. and tickets are $20. They are on sale now at the theatre’s box office, by phone at 941-488-1115 or online at www.venicestage.com. Patrons can take advantage of a discounted ticket for the entire Summer Concert Series (which also includes California Toe Jam on Aug. 16, The Goldtones on Sept. 13, and Lotela Gold on Oct. 13) for just $60, a $20 discount.
Before her professional career took her into the world of Top 40 music, Twinkle – a native Sarasotan – performed locally after her graduation from Booker VPA High School. Since then she has worked with some of the biggest names in rock and soul from Quincy Jones to Eric Clapton and David Crosby. Now, with her own band Rock Soul Radio, she brings that music to their new show.
The Summer Oldies Concert Series is an annual tradition of the Venice Theatre Guild. What started as one show per summer has grown to a full-fledged series of four shows. All proceeds fund the Theatre Guild’s scholarship programs. Every year, the scholarships make it possible for dozens of area youth from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade to participate in VT’s performance and technical theatre classes and summer camps. There are also scholarships available for older youth enrolled in the theatre’s Technical Theatre Apprenticeship Program and Summer Stock.
Board President Earl Baumruck notes that, “We can put a kid in class with the sale of just ten tickets!”
The concert series continues when California Toe Jam – a ‘50s to ‘80s rock band – takes the stage on Aug. 16. The Goldtones return on Sept. 13 with their sweet sounds of Doo-Wop from the 1950s, and the series wraps up on Oct. 13 with Lotela Gold, a show band featuring music of the ‘50s and ‘60s.
Venice Theatre is located at 140 W. Tampa Ave. on the island in Venice. Summer box office hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and one hour before all performances.
