Venice Theatre Guild bringing the hottest Doo-Wop group in Florida back to Venice
The Goldtones returning to Venice Theatre’s MainStage Sept. 12, 2015
(Venice, FL) The Venice Theatre Guild invites audiences to enjoy another night of nostalgia, energy and fun when The Goldtones take to the MainStage Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015. The concert is at 8 p.m. and tickets are $20. They are on sale now at the theatre’s box office, by phone at 941-488-1115 or online at www.venicestage.com. Proceeds benefit the Theatre Guild’s scholarship program.
The Goldtones have been called the “hottest doo-wop group in Florida” and entertain their audiences with the sweet sounds of street-corner harmony and favorites from the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s. The group is back by popular demand after concerts in 2013 and 2014.
The quartet features John Gualberto (Johnny G.), who has been singing professionally since he was 12 years old; Ed Diana who started singing professionally at 18 with the original five-man group “The Orkells” in New Haven, Connecticut; Gary Bloomberg (Gary B), who started singing with bands in the early ‘60s and went on to become an award winning actor and director; and drummer James West, who, like his partners, began performing in his early teens. A trained vocalist and drummer, James is also a guitarist and lyricist.
The summer oldies concerts are an annual tradition of the Venice Theatre Guild and the sole source of funds for the Theatre Guild’s vital scholarship program which every year provides tuition support to dozens of students who wish to participate in Venice Theatre performance and technical theatre classes, summer theatre camps, internships and Summer Stock.
Venice Theatre is located at 140 W. Tampa Ave. on the island in Venice. Summer box office hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and one hour before all performances.
