Nashville, TN – June 15, 2018 – Vanessa Carlton unveils the fourth of six cover songs that she plans to release over the coming months with a cover of Karen Dalton’s “Little Bit of Rain,” which she premiered on Elle.com yesterday. The video, directed by Jesse DeFlorio and Seth Lliff, was inspired by this Barbra Streisand video for “One Less Bell to Answer.” Vanessa said, “we wanted to do something super simple and performance based but have a moment where I split in two and duet with myself just like Babs did.” PRESS HERE to watch and to purchase.

The original version of this song was sung by Fred Neil which is so different from the Karen Dalton version.  I actually studied Fred’s version for this. Karen’s interpretation makes me cry and I could never mimic her. We ended up doing this song in one take to tape. An ode to another time. And wow what a simple searing little song this is. Carlton began her cover song series with her cover of Robyn’s “Call Your Girlfriend” (PRESS HERE) followed by Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams” (PRESS HERE) and Neil Young’s “Only Love Will Break Your Heart” (PRESS HERE).

Fans first were first given a taste of Carlton’s musical evolution when she released the critically-acclaimed studio album Liberman in 2015 via Dine Alone. The ten songs on the album reflected on Vanessa’s current state of mind since moving from NYC to Nashville, marrying husband John McCauley (Deer Tick) and having a baby girl.  The simple instrumentation mixed with her wistful vocals and poignant lyrics brought you into her world and showcased a new side to this accomplished songwriter.
