Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” has been the subject of more than 40 feature films, TV movies and short films but perhaps none was as revered as the 1938 version, with Reginald Owen as Ebenezer Scrooge. As always, it tells the story of how Scrooge, a bitter and miserly old man, learns the true meaning of Christmas after being visited by the ghosts of Christmas past, Christmas present and Christmas that has yet to be.  He wakes up Christmas morning a changed man. Also noteworthy is the only joint appearance of The Lockhart acting family (Gene, Kathleen and June, who makes her motion picture debut at age 12.

“Christmas in Connecticut” is about a writer in New York (played by Barbara Stanwyck) who publishes a series of well-regarded articles about her non-existent country Connecticut farm. When faced with hosting a Christmas party Elizabeth Lane attempts to create the life her fictional articles portray.

“What better way to get in the Yuletide spirit than to spend a heart-warming evening in a theatre with these two terrific family films – probably the best version of the classic Dickens tale along with the delightful holiday-themed comedy starring Barbara Stanwyck,” noted Jeff Baker, WBHE’s Executive Vice President and General Manager of Theatrical Catalog. “Both, of course, will debut on Blu-ray™ November 11 if families want a similar experience at home.”

“These films are heartwarming family favorites and this double bill is a great holiday outing for new and old fans alike,” Fathom Events Executive Vice President Shelly Maxwell said. “Fathom Events is pleased to be able to present these holidays favorites as they have always been meant to be seen: on the big screen.”
