Trash Turned Into Treasure for Local Homeless Animals
Second Annual “Rummage for Rescues”
“One man’s trash is another man’s treasure” is a common phrase heard when referring to yard sales. For a group of local animal rescues one man’s trash might just be man’s best friend’s treasure. A local woman, Caryn Hodge, is collecting gently used items for the month of September which she will then sell to donate funds to Manatee County Animal Services and local animal rescue organizations. The event is called Rummage for Rescues. It is the second year the event has been held.
The sale will take place Friday-Sunday, October 2, 3 and 4, 8am-2pm, at 318 Magnolia Avenue, Anna Maria across the street from the AMI Community Center and will benefit several area animal rescue groups. The items will be stored at Hideaway Storage located at 4305 32nd Street near Cox Chevrolet at no charge.
Items collected and sold will benefit dogs and cats through several rescue groups including: Hope for Paws, Satchels Last Resort, Gulf Shore Animal League which rescues cats and kittens and helps with TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) of feral cats, and Animal Network which helps treat heartworm positive dogs. Hodge is hoping to raise at least $4,000 to distribute to the rescue groups.
Hodge is asking anyone who has items in good condition they would like to donate for the sale to contact her at 941-713-3105. She is not excepting clothes. Furniture and large items will be collected depending on the size and condition. Pick up and transport of items is provided or the items can be dropped off at the storage unit by appointment.
In addition to the yard sale, there will also be animals up for adoption provided by the rescues throughout the three day sale.
For more information contact Caryn Hodge at 941-713-3105.
