Youth Education
Let Your Child’s Creativity Shine
 
From Acting I, to Write & Perform, to Improvisation, there is a class for your child at the Florida Studio Theatre School! FST’s School offers various youth classes for children aged 4 to 17 year-round.

 

Enrollment for 2014 – 2015 classes has begun and classes begin 2 WEEKS from now. Do not miss your chance to enroll your child in our fun classes that not only will enhance their creativity and theatrical skills, but will allow them to meet new friends! 

 

Check out some of our available classes below:

 

Acting I – Ages 7 – 12

Learn the building blocks of a professional acting technique, from being comfortable in front of an audience to utilizing your mind, voice and body to communicate truthful emotion on stage. Rehearse and perform short pieces and monologues 
Tuesdays or Wednesdays 4:30 PM – 6:00 PM

Fee: $199 per 8-week session 

For the pre-teen and teen ready to advance in scene work, 
strengthen technique and improve writing skills. Students will develop, write and perform scenes and short plays.

Mondays 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM
Fee: $399 per 16-week session or $597/both sessions 

**Prerequisite of Acting I, Acting II or by Staff Invitation.
An intensive program for students with previous training from the FST school. Develop, rehearse and perform an original one-act play.

Wednesdays 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM

Fee: $597 for 25-week session 
**Prerequisite of Acting I, Acting II or by Staff Invitation.
Rehearse and perform an original one-act play. Strengthen performance technique by utilizing acting skills, Developing character and relationship in an ensemble. 

Tuesdays 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM

Fee: $597 for 24-week session 

**Prerequisite of Acting I, Teen Scene or by Staff Invitation.
 

Teen Acting I – Ages 13 – 17 
Learn the building blocks of a solid acting technique, 
utilizing mind, voice and body to communicate emotion. 
Become comfortable in front of an audience and enhance 
imagination through improvisation.
Mondays 4:30 PM – 6:00 PM

Fee: $199 per 8 week session

Go behind the scenes, learn how to improvise, and discover your creative talents at the Florida Studio Theater School. FST offers a variety of classes for you to choose from that will enhance your creativity and theatrical skills, as well as allow you to meet new people.

Behind the Scenes at FST

This popular series takes you on a behind-the-scenes tour of the play creation process! Follow the professional visiting artists and FST staff from initial concept to final performance. You’ll be right beside the professionals for:

*Script Analysis

*Design Concept Meeting
*First Read-Through (with the actors & designers)
*Play Panel Discussion
*Process Class
* First Run-Through (first-time actors run through show in rehearsal)
*Tech Rehearsal
*Dress Rehearsal
8 Classes | Fee: $99/session

Space is limited to the first 32 applicants

 

No Fear Acting

The most welcoming Introduction to Acting Class you will ever
experience. Unleash your inner actor and lay the groundwork for
all your future performances and classes. Start your training with
a solid foundation, and learn the building blocks of mind, heart,
body, and voice. This 16-week class will improve your mind with
script and character analysis, deepen your heart with emotional
intelligence, free your body with biomechanics and movement-

based exercises, and unleash your voice with breathing and vocal
training. The class will feature two performance nights in Bowne’s
Lab Theatre, where students will perform polished monologues
and scenes for a live audience. 

Tuesdays 7:00 PM- 9:00 PM
Fee: $398 per 16-week session

 

Acting for the Camera

This 10 week course is designed for students with some previous
acting experience either in the classroom or on stage. Class work 
will be videotaped, and instruction will focus on learning acting
techniques for on-camera auditions, commercial copy, improvisation, and serious scripted scene work. Participants will become familiar with the filmmaking process, and will cover a variety of topics including making strong choices, audition etiquette, what casting directors look for, empowering yourself as an actor, dealing with nerves, taking risks, analyzing a script, working with a partner, image/type and how to book a job.
Thursdays 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Fee: $398 for 10 weeks

**Prerequisite: No Fear Acting or submit a theatre resume.

Space is limited to 10 students

 

Devise and Conquer!

In this sixteen week session focused on ensemble work, students will be guided in the creation and development of short plays, sketches, and stories based on prompts, group exercises, and improvisation, and then receive acting instruction to polish the presentation of these original works in Mixed Nuts performances in Bowne ‘s Lab Theatre.
Mondays 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Fee: $398 for 16 weeks

**Prerequisite: No Fear Acting or submit a theatre resume.

 

Improv for Performance

Let’s put it all together! An in-depth class designed to develop and refine the individual’s ability to work in an ensemble. Structured around performance, students perform regularly in FST’s Bowne’s Lab. Special attention ispaid to the individual performer’s ability to create believable, emotionally based characters that have the ability to drive a scene forward though character modification and change. Admission to this class is by instructor recommendation only.
Tuesdays 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Fee: $199 persession | Sign-up for 4 sessions for $597

 

Going Long: An Introduction to
Creating the Narrative 

All the world is a stage and it takes practice to avoid the pit. Through games, exercises and training formats, you’ll learn the basic elements of improvising a thirty-minute story: who is the story about, what kind of story is it, and how does your character fit into it. This workshop series offers the keys on how to begin with nothing, go on a journey, and actually find the end.
Thursdays 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Fee: $199/session | Sign-up for 4 sessions for $597

Inside FST
RAP-Punzel Rehearsals
Rehearsals have begun for RAP-Punzel, by Beth Duda and Adam Ratner. The show kicks off FST’s 2014-2015 WRITE A PLAY season in the Keating Theatre on September 23. In this twist on a classic tale, Punzel uses her love of language and rhyme to overcome her fears and fully realize her authentic self. This humorous and touching tale of self-actualization will have you and your students tapping your toes and rooting for Punzel as she encounters challenges on her road to becoming RAP-Punzel.
