LOS ANGELES – (June 16, 2022)The Television Critics Association (TCA) announced today the nominees for the organization’s 38TH Annual TCA Awards. The 2022 TCA Awards showcase a diverse roster of TV content across a wide array of platforms and genres, spotlighting outstanding creators, series, and stars of the 2021-2022 TV season. The TCA, made up of more than 200 professional journalists covering television, nominated programming available on broadcast, cable and streaming outlets.

The TCA presents awards in 13 distinct categories, honoring outstanding achievements in Drama; Comedy; Miniseries; Youth; News and Information; Reality; and Variety, Sketch or Talk Shows, among others. Winners will be announced at the invitation-only presentation on Saturday, August 6, at The Langham Huntington Hotel in Pasadena, CA, marking the first time that the TCA Awards will be held in-person since 2019.

HBO earned 12 nominations while HBO Max grabbed nine, resulting in 21 combined nominations. Netflix garnered 13 nominations and Apple TV+ followed with 10. Hulu racked up eight, and Showtime scored six. Elsewhere, ABC, CBS, and FX are tied with five apiece; AMC and NBC have four; Bravo, Paramount+, and PBS have two; and Disney+, Disney Junior, Peacock, and PBS Kids close out the rankings with one each.

On the series front, ABC’s public school comedy “Abbott Elementary” is at the top of the class with five nominations. The sitcom’s high marks include a pair of Individual Achievement In Comedy nods for series creator, producer, writer, and star Quinta Brunson, and scene-stealing comic Janelle James; in addition to Outstanding New Program, Outstanding Achievement In Comedy, and the TCA’s top prize: Program Of The Year.

The coveted Program Of The Year category is dominated by first-year favorites this season. “Abbott Elementary” is joined by fellow freshmen offerings, Apple TV+’s mind-bending office mystery “Severance,” Netflix’s global megahit “Squid Game,” HBO’s sharp satire “The White Lotus,” and Showtime’s thriller “Yellowjackets.” The newcomers face stiff competition as they look to overcome a trio of returning titans, AMC’s beloved “Better Call Saul,” HBO Max’s biting showbiz comedy “Hacks,” and HBO’s captivating family drama “Succession.”

Elsewhere, Showtime’s timely doc series “We Need To Talk About Cosby” and Disney+’s acclaimed rockumentary “The Beatles: Get Back” are up for the honor of Outstanding Achievement In News And Information; Bill Hader, Steve Martin, and Jason Sudeikis vie for Individual Achievement In Comedy. “Dopesick ” star Michael Keaton leads an all-star Individual Achievement In Drama field featuring Lee Jung-jae, Mandy Moore, Bob Odenkirk, Adam Scott, and Amanda Seyfried. “The Amazing Race” seeks to cross the finish line and claim its second win in Outstanding Achievement In Reality. John Oliver defends his Outstanding Achievement In Variety, Talk Or Sketch crown against late-night mainstays Seth Meyers, Stephen Colbert, and “Saturday Night Live.” CBS’ supernatural sitcom “Ghosts” tries to scare up its first Outstanding Achievement In Comedy award against recent winners “Atlanta” and “Ted Lasso.”

“The 2022 TCA Awards are an exciting landmark for the organization and its members, as it will be the first time in three years that we are finally able to celebrate together in person,” said Melanie McFarland, TCA President and TV Critic for Salon. “It’s fitting, then, that we should ring in this long-awaited occasion with one of the most competitive, talented, and star-heavy nominee rosters in recent memory. This lineup is a testament to how diverse and innovative the modern television landscape has become. We cannot wait to see who will rise above the rest when the winners are revealed at the 38TH Annual TCA Awards on August 6.”
