“With its buttery horn arrangements, funky guitar licks, and lead singer Kam Franklin’s bubbly vocals,
‘Make Some Room’… sounds like it stepped straight out of the ’70s soul-pop movement that produced Honey Cone.”
– Entertainment Weekly
“Much like Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, Franklin and The Suffers can own a room…
it won’t be long before people are making room for The Suffers.”
– Buzzfeed
“The Suffers are a ten-piece soul collective that steeps their tracks in jazzy history with a modern twist.
They’re the sort of neo-retro group you never knew music was so badly missing”
– SPIN
“Gwan…features a bold conga breakdown and devastating Chaka Khan-like vocals from Kam Franklin.”
– The New York Times

With tremendous excitement towards their performance on Late Show With David Letterman, The Suffers explain, “We can’t wait to play where we’ve seen and discovered so many of our favorite musical acts!”
Established in 2011, The Suffers’ lineup was curated by bassist Adam Castaneda and vocalist/keyboardist Pat Kelly, who brought on trumpet player Jon Durbin, trombonist Michael Razo, guitarist Kevin Bernier, percussionist Jose “Chapy” Luna, and drummer/vocalist Nick Zamora. Jazz saxophonist Cory Wilson and guitarist/vocalist Alex Zamora filled out the rhythm section, while frontwoman Kam Franklin topped off the group with soaring vocals.
In a short time, the band has progressed from packing Houston venues to accepting invitations for featured performances at Voodoo Music + Arts Experience 2014, SXSW 2014, Dallas’ Index and Homegrown Festivals, Houston’s Free Press Summer Festival, Untapped Festival, and CMJ Music Marathon 2014. The Suffers have since joined the ranks of Red Bull Sound Select and have remained a local favorite, accepting eleven Houston Press Music Awards in three years. Recently, the band supported Lee Fields & The Expressions and performed at Big D NYE – the largest New Year’s Eve celebration in the Central Time Zone! This year, The Suffers are set to play Hangout Festival and Neon Desert Music Festival, following an East Coast tour.
