She’ll Stick To Ye’
A rehearsed reading of a new play set in Dublin by multi-awarded dramatist
JACK GILHOOLEY
WHEN IRELAND WON’T BURY JAMES JOYCE, HIS WIDOW HAS A (FUNNY) BONE TO PICK
She’ll Stick To Ye’ is an 80-90 minute play based on an imagined situation. Nora Barnacle Joyce never returned to her native Ireland after the country refused to accept her husband, James Joyce’s body for burial in 1941. But if she had… hell to pay!
It is 1946 and Nora delivers a lecture to The Irish Women’s Literary Society, an intelligent and open-minded group… to a degree, that is. But the convent-educated widow bore two children by Joyce while unmarried. Besides, her husband wrote Ulysses, the most censored book of the 20th century. Nora is scheduled to deliver an introductory lecture and then answer questions from the Dublin audience. With that amount of time at the podium, she might say anything.
