BEAT THE SUMMER HEAT AT THE PLAYERS WITH THEIR SUMMER SIZZLER SERIES
Sarasota, May 23, 2014 — This Summer, The Players Theatre keeps it cool with a great lineup of shows beginning in June and continuing through August. The Summer Sizzler Series starts the summer off with 3 shows consisting of 2 straight plays and one musical. In June, Dixie Swim Club makes a splash with a poignant and touching comedy about five unforgettable women and their enduring friendship that spans the test of time. July Brings a glitzy revue from the very best of Sweden’s super group ABBA with Knowing Me, Knowing You: The Hits of ABBA. August buzzes with the winner of the American Theatre Critiques Association Award Winner Talking With… where eleven extraordinary women share eleven inspiring and comical stories. Punctuating the series in July is The Players New Play Festival—five days of local and original play readings written by playwrights from all over the suncoast. The playwrights compete to have their play produced on The Players main stage next season. The winner of last year’s New Play Festival, That Wasn’t Me, will be produced at the end of August with a show about the transformation of a mother’s life as her son’s bright future is brought to a halt with a terrible accident—with him behind the wheel.
There is still time to subscribe to the Summer Sizzler Series for a discounted price of $45 for all three shows. Regular price single tickets to the Series are $18. Tickets for The New Play Festival are $10 each, 3 plays for $24, and all 5 for $35 and tickets for That Wasn’t Me are $15.

A comedy about five unforgettable women whose friendship began many years ago while members of a college swim team. They meet every August, free from husbands, kids, jobs, and inhibitions to recharge their relationships, laugh and meddle in each other’s lives.

Summer Sizzler Show 2: Knowing Me, Knowing You: The Hits of ABBA

An all singing, all dancing, all ABBA musical revue covering the best songs from “Chiquitita” to “Winner Takes It All”. Enjoy all of this super groups’ hits LIVE on stage with fun, interactive and informational “pop ups” that expose interesting facts about the songs, albums, movies and band members.
