THE PLATINUM COMEDY TOUR COMES TO THE USF SUN DOME IN 2018

TAMPA, FL – Get ready for an evening of laughs – the Platinum Comedy Tour comes to Tampa’s USF Sun Dome on Saturday, February 17, 2018. The tour features comedic greats Mike Epps, DeRay Davis and DC Curry.

Stand-up comedian-turned-actor Mike Epps got his first big break performing on HBO’s “Def Comedy Jam”, and soon parlayed his popularity into big screen success with co-starring roles in Ice Cube features like “Next Friday” (2000) and “All About the Benjamins” (2002). Tall and handsome with a charming smile and wiseass demeanor, Epps stood out in a string of broad comedies before finally being tapped to play more substantial characters in meatier films like 2007’s “Talk to Me.” Most recently he has released two stand-up DVDs in 2009: Funny Bidness and Under Rated and Never Faded and starred in the hilarious comedy “The Hangover” that has grossed over $450 million dollars to date.

Born and raised on the south side of Chicago, comedian-turned-actor DeRay Davis can most recently be “scene” and heard in the blockbuster mega hit “21 Jump Street,” “Jumping the Broom,” and his wildly successful Showtime one hour comedy special, “DeRay Davis: Power Play”. He lends his voice and writing talent to countless characters on Kanye Wests’ albums, The Boondocks and currently on Adult Swim’s Black Dynamite!

DeRay developed and honed a hip, sardonic, streetwise mentality at an early age and parlayed it smoothly and efficiently into the comedy-club circuit. Davis achieved his career breakthrough at the Laffapalooza Festival in Atlanta, GA, then scored a triple whammy by winning the Comedy Central Laugh Riots competition and landing covetable spots in the Montreal Just for Laughs festival and the Cedric the Entertainer festival. Throughout, the comic wove vulgar and droll, yet also telling and deeply personal, routines around the subjects of race, poverty, and his challenging experiences growing up in the Windy City projects with a dysfunctional African-American family.

The transition from behind-the-mike spots to movie roles represented a relatively short jump, for most of Davis’ early film assignments emphasized the same subject matter as his routines; for example, he played the “Hustle Guy” in “Barbershop”, and its sequel “Barbershop 2: Back in Business;” rapper Mario “Fa Real” Greene in the Martin Short comedy “Jiminy Glick in La La Wood;” and a Jamaican stoner in “Johnson Family Vacation”.

Known by fans across the country for his numerous national television appearances, his yearly theatre tours and for headlining the nation’s hottest comedy clubs, Don “DC” Curry is probably most widely recognized for his comedic acting role as the zany “Uncle Elroy” on the hit urban classics, “Next Friday” and “Friday After Next.” He’s currently developing his own comedy reality show, “No Chit,” about comedian’s lives on the modern-day “Chitlin Circuit.”

His credits also include a recurring role on the new Aaron McGruder sitcom, “Black Jesus,” and guest appearances on: “The Boondocks,” “Everybody Hates Chris,” “The Steve Harvey Show,” “The Chris Rock Show,” “HBO Def Comedy Jam,” “Martin Lawrence’s 1st Amendment Stand Up,” “Comics Unleashed,” “Comics Unleashed Hot Chocolate,” “TV One’s Way Black When,” host of “BET Comic View,” his own Comedy Central Special, his own BET Special, a series regular role on ABC’s “Grace Under Fire,” and the Winner of the “Bay Area Black Comedy Competition.”
