Fathom Events and the Metropolitan Opera Bring Four Classic Opera Performances Back to Select U.S. Cinemas This July

DENVER – April 27, 2014 The Metropolitan Opera and Fathom Events partner to present “The Met: Live in HD’ 2015 Summer Encores,” a series of four encore performances from the 2014-2015 Live in HD series in more than 480 U.S. cinemas nationwide through Fathom’s Digital Broadcast Network. The screenings will occur on Wednesdays throughout July beginning on July 8th at 7:00 p.m. local time. This summer’s Encore series offers the return of Verdi’s La Traviata (July 8), Donizetti’s La Fille du Régiment (July 15), Lehár’s The Merry Widow (July 22), and Verdi’s Aida (July 29). Audiences won’t want to miss the opportunity to experience these exciting performances captured live from the stage of The Met.

Tickets for “’The Met: Live in HD’ 2015 Summer Encores” are available at www.FathomEvents.com or at participating theater box offices.

La Traviata – Wednesday, July 8 (originally transmitted live on April 14, 2012)

Willy Decker’s stunning production of Verdi’s timeless tragedy stars the riveting singing actress Natalie Dessay as Violetta. Matthew Polenzani is Alfredo Germont, the young man from a good family who risks everything for Violetta. Dmitri Hvorostovsky sings Giorgio Germont, Alfredo’s father. Met Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi conducts.

La Fille du Régiment – Wednesday, July 15 (originally transmitted live on April 26, 2008)

Madcap physical comedy and impeccable coloratura come together in Natalie Dessay’s tour de force portrayal of the feisty tomboy raised by a regiment of French soldiers. Laurent Pelly’s hilarious production also stars Juan Diego Flórez as the young Swiss villager who conquers her heart—along with a slew of high Cs. Marco Armiliato conducts.

The Merry Widow – Wednesday, July 22 (originally transmitted live on January 17, 2015)

The great Renée Fleming stars as the beguiling woman who captivates all Paris in Lehár’s enchanting operetta, seen in a new hit staging by Broadway virtuoso director and choreographer Susan Stroman. This dazzling production takes place in an art-nouveau setting that climaxes with singing and dancing grisettes at the legendary Maxim’s. Nathan Gunn co-stars as Danilo and Kelli O’Hara is Valencienne. Sir Andrew Davis conducts.

Aida – Wednesday, July 29 (originally transmitted live on December 15, 2012)

The Met’s spectacular production of Verdi’s Egyptian epic captures both the grandeur and the intimacy of this powerful tale of love and politics. Liudmyla Monastyrska is Aida, the enslaved Ethiopian princess in love with the Egyptian warrior Radamès, sung by Roberto Alagna. Olga Borodina is her rival, Amneris. Met Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi is on the podium.
