OFFICIAL SHOWCASE PERFORMANCES CONFIRMED FOR MAY 6 & 7
THE MAGNETTES
“The Magnettes are here to offer a refreshingly different take on the country’s musical reputation…singers Rebecka Digervall and Sanna Kalla put a badass spin on the typical cheerleader look to deliver their cheeky, Icona Pop-meets-Sleigh Bells sound in their small Swedish town of Pajala.”

Swedish pop duo THE MAGNETTESco-vocalists Rebecka Digervall and Sanna Kalla–are garnering a lot of attention overseas and are now setting their sights on North America. Today (4/14), they released a music video for their current single “Killers In A Ghost Town” (DigSin) exclusively on FM.tv, Fuse‘s new platform celebrating emerging artists. The video was shot in the group’s hometown of Pajala, Sweden.

“‘Killers In A Ghost Town’ is about being an outcast and an underdog,” the pair explains. “About claiming your space and identity. About growing up as a goth or punk kid wanting to look like Robert Smith and everyone telling you to brush your hair out. But most of all, it’s about friendship.”
The song has surpassed over 84,000 spins on Spotify and is now available digitally at http://smarturl.it/MagnettesKIAGT.
Rebecka and Sanna spoke to FM.tv about the video: “There’s a lot of identity, a lot of personal history in this video. Everything was shot in our hometown Pajala, by our old high school lockers and at the places that we used to sneak out to get drunk when we were 15. The accordion in the intro is from an old recording of Tomas’s [guitarist, keyboardist, and producer Tomas Bäcklund Thuneström] recently departed grandfather. So there’s just a lot of US in there.”
The “Killers In A Ghost Town” video coincides with news that THE MAGNETTES will perform a pair of official showcases at Canadian Music Week in Toronto next month: Friday, May 6 at Nightowl Toronto and Saturday, May 7 at Handlebar. Tickets for both shows are available here: https://cmw.net/music/artists/details/?id=10452. More North American dates will be announced soon.
The seeds of rebellion first became planted when Rebecka Digervall and Sanna Kalla met at 6-years-old in their small town Pajala in Sweden. THE MAGNETTES fondly call this city of 2,000 home and it’s the birthplace of their infectious and inimitable glitter (punk) pop sound. By age 14, Rebecka had written a plethora of songs for them as a duo and in 2012, they released their first official song, “Paper Cut,” and began performing across Europe and Russia. They’ve performed at numerous festivals overseas, among them Live At Heart in Sweden and Future Music Forum in Barcelona, as well as SXSW and CMJ here in the States.
