The Hills are Alive with 50 Years of ‘The Sound of Music’ in Select U.S. Cinemas for Two Days This April
Fathom Events, Turner Classic Movies (TCM) and Twentieth Century Fox Present “The Sound of Music” 50th Anniversary April 19 and 22
DENVER – March 18, 2015 – Fathom Events invites you to celebrate the 50th anniversary of one of the biggest movie musicals of all time, “TCM Presents: The Sound of Music,” in partnership with Turner Classic Movies (TCM) and Twentieth Century Fox, to select U.S. movie theaters on Sunday, April 19 and Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at 2:00 and 7:00 p.m. local time each day. This not-to-be-missed cinematic event will include a specially produced introduction by TCM host Robert Osborne.
The hit musical was originally released in 1965 and won five Academy Awards®, including Best Picture and Best Music, and has proven to remain a relevant and timeless classic. Hollywood recently paid tribute to the film and its landmark anniversary at the 2015 Oscars®, which included a medley of four songs from the film as performed by Lady Gaga. This year’s special two-day cinematic event will have people buzzing, humming and singing all the way to the box office.
Tickets for “TCM Presents: The Sound of Music” are now available for purchase at participating theater box offices and online at www.FathomEvents.com. Fans throughout the U.S. will be able to enjoy the event in nearly 700 movie theaters through Fathom’s Digital Broadcast Network. For a complete list of theater locations, please visit the Fathom Events website (theaters and participants are subject to change).
Originally written by Richard Rodgers, with lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, “The Sound of Music” was a smash hit in its time, and throughout the 50 years since, it has become a cinematic staple beloved worldwide. In this true-life story, Julie Andrews lights up the screen as Maria, a spirited young Austrian woman who leaves the convent to become a governess for Captain von Trapp’s (Christopher Plummer) seven unruly children. Her charm and songs soon win the hearts of the children – and their father.
“Fathom Events is thrilled to bring a movie that many of us have only seen in the comfort of our homes to the big screen in partnership with TCM,” said Fathom Events CEO John Rubey. “There is something special about being able to experience The Sound of Music with the sound, picture and energy that comes with seeing it in a theater.”
