The Extraordinary Artists of Curtis On Tour Visit New England July 17-25

PHILADELPHIA, PA–July 14, 2014–The exceptional young musicians of the Curtis Institute of Music, “One of the world’s most elite music academies” (BBC Culture), visit New England in July for performances and community events featuring faculty, students, and alumni. The school’s global touring initiative, Curtis On Tour brings the world-renowned artistry of the Curtis Institute of Music across the country and around the globe.

Following a kickoff performance in Philadelphia (July 15), Curtis On Tour appears in Nantucket (July 17-19), Woods Hole, Mass. (July 20); Wellfleet, Mass. (July 21); and Rockport, Me. (July 24-25) . The New England tour includes two programs, each featuring an acclaimed alumni soloist. Violist Roberto Díaz (’84), Curtis’s president, is joined by Curtis students for an all-Schumann chamber music program; while a chamber ensemble program pairs Antonio Vivaldi’s iconic The Four Seasons with Astor Piazzolla’s tango masterpiece The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires (as arranged by Leonid Desyatnikov), featuring young Curtis virtuosos and violinist Elissa Lee Koljonen (’94). July 15: Field Concert Hall, Philadelphia 
Curtis On Tour previews the New England tour at Field Concert Hall at the Curtis Institute of Music on Tuesday, July 15 at 6 p.m. The program includes Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons paired with Piazzolla’s The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires with soloist Elissa Lee Koljonen, violin. July 17: Nantucket Atheneum
Curtis On Tour performs an evening of chamber music by Schumann in the Great Hall at the Nantucket Atheneum on Thursday, July 17 at 7:30 p.m. Curtis President Roberto Díaz, viola, is joined by three students for Schumann’s Quartet in E-flat Major for piano and strings. Students also perform Schumann’s Sonata No. 1 in A minor for violin and piano, and Fünf Stücke im Volkston for cello and piano. Admission is free and tickets are not required. Seating is limited and available

July 18: Nantucket Family Concert and Master Class
In addition to local performances, Curtis On Tour participates in two community events while in Nantucket. Curtis offers
an introduction to Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons with a family concert in Hendrix Hall at the Nantucket Unitarian Universalist Church on Friday, July 18 at 11 a.m. In this short program, Roberto Díaz and student musicians highlight key sections of this famous work for children and their families. Best suited for ages six and up, the concert is presented by the Nantucket Community Music Center. Tickets are $10 for general admission, $5 for students and seniors, and free for children under five, and are available from

Later that day, young violinists participate in a master class with a Curtis student at the Nantucket Community Music

July 19: Nantucket Dreamland
Praised for its “aplomb, suavity and style” (Orange County Register), Curtis On Tour appears at the Nantucket Dreamland Main Theater on Saturday, July 19 at 8 p.m., performing Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons and Piazzolla’s The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires with violinist Elissa Lee Koljonen. The concert will also feature projected photography by Cary Hazlegrove. Tickets are $40 and are available from www.nantucketdreamland.org/programs/live-performances or (508) 332-4822.
