The Canton Symphony Orchestra has Something for Everyone this 2014-15 Season

Single concert tickets will go on sale September 2nd for the Canton Symphony Orchestra’s 77th season. Events include seven concerts in the MasterWorks classical series, two Pops Concerts, three performances in the casual series and educational offerings that include ConverZations, SymphonyLand, Kinder Concerts, and Young People’s Concerts.

The CSO’s Masterworks Series will begin on October 5th in the Umstattd Performing Arts Hall. The series continues monthly through April 25th, 2015. Guest Artists performing during this year’s season include Allison Pohl, Westwater Arts, Wu Man, Joshua Roman, and Andre Watts.
The Pops offerings feature performances by the Canton Symphony Chorus and choruses from Perry & Alliance high schools on the annual Holiday Concert, December 7th, 2014; and the return of Kent-Based band, The Speedbumps, on February 7, 2015 at the Canton Palace Theatre.

In the Spring, the orchestra will present a Beethoven Festival, celebrating the life and music of one of western music’s most influential composers. Over the course of four concerts on March 28 and 29 and April 25 and 26 , the CSO, featuring André Watts as solo pianist, will perform all five of Beethoven’s piano concerti, his 9th symphony, and other works by the legendary composer. The festival will also feature lectures, movies, and other events focusing on Beethoven’s music.

For young listeners, educational events such as SymphonyLand, the Kinder Concert and Young People’s Concert introduce Pre-K and elementary school children to the exciting world of orchestral music. For adults looking for deeper insight into the world of classical music, the new ConverZations series provides free lectures given by professional musicians on the second Monday of every month. The series will include discussions about the process of learning concerti, the life and times of Beethoven, and many more exciting topics.

Tickets start at a very affordable $18 for Pops and $25 for Masterworks concerts. There are senior, student and group discounts available. Dress is casual, and both the Masterworks and Pops Concerts are  recommended for ages 7 and up. Students with a valid ID who arrive an hour before the concert may purchase a remaining ticket for $10. Tickets and the full concert schedule are available online at www.CantonSymphony.org, by calling 330-452-2094, or by walk-up at individual concerts. Some concerts do sell out in advance.
