TEXAS RANGERS RECALL LHP ALEX CLAUDIO FROM ROUND ROCK
RHP Phil Klein optioned to Round Rock
Seattle, Washington--The Texas Rangers today announced that lefthanded pitcher Alex Claudio has been recalled from Triple-A Round Rock of the Pacific Coast League. Claudio (#58) will be in uniform for Wednesday afternoon’s game in Seattle.
To make room for Claudio on the active roster, righthanded pitcher Phil Klein has been optioned to Round Rock.
Claudio has made one appearance for the Express this season, pitching 2.0 scoreless innings on April 7 at Iowa with one walk and two strikeouts. The lefthander has seen action with Texas each of the last two seasons with a 1-1 record and 2.89 ERA in 33 career major league appearances. He has held lefthanded batters to a .212 (11-52) batting average in his major league stints.
Klein has pitched 3.0 scoreless innings in his two relief appearances with Texas in 2016.
With today’s moves, the Rangers’ major league roster remains at 40 players.
YU DARVISH UPDATE
Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish threw his first live batting practice session on Wednesday morning at Globe Life Park in Arlington. Darvish threw a total of 30 pitches, 15 in each of 2.0 innings. He faced Joe Jackson and Isiah Kiner-Falefa of the Frisco RoughRiders with Frisco’s Kellin Deglan doing the catching. Frisco has an off day on Wednesday.
Darvish reported all went well. His next session of live batting practice is scheduled for Sunday. Darvish is on the 60-day disabled list as he continues his rehab from Tommy John surgery on his right elbow on March 17, 2015.
