FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Team USA swimmers set two world records in Berlin COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Tucker Dupree and Lizzy Smith set world records to lead Team USA on the second day of competition at the 28th International German Championship today in Berlin. Three-time Paralympic medalist Tucker Dupree (Raleigh, North Carolina) was only two-tenths of a second off of the world record in the men’s S12 50-meter backstroke in the morning’s qualifying session. But in the afternoon’s final, Dupree came back to slash the record by nine-hundredths of a second. Elizabeth Smith (Muncie, Indiana) had a full day with three prelims and two finals, but the busy day was a success for Smith who set an American record in the women’s S9 50 backstroke and set a world record in the 50 butterfly. Smith’s time of 31.90 in the butterfly broke the four-year-old record by eight-hundredths of a second.
