MOSI fights Summer Learning Loss as Summer Science Camps begin
TAMPA, FL – Tampa Bay’s most fun and exciting STEM and STEAM camps begin at the Museum of Science & Industry on Monday, June 13, 2016. Registration is open now at MOSI.ORG and will remain open throughout the summer.
Students can lose two to three months’ worth of academic skills during summer downtime, according to the National Summer Learning Association. Activities that engage kids’ minds – like MOSI’s Summer Science Camps and visits to MOSI – can fight that Summer Learning Loss or “Summer Brain Drain.”
MOSI’s Summer Science Camps bring science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) alive through hands-on experiments and creative projects. Doing real science with the tools and technology used by professionals is just one of the ways MOSI Summer Science Camps inspire campers with a “can do” attitude that can last a lifetime. Real science coupled with exciting experiments, simulations, explorations, and inventions will help campers discover the innovator within.
Designing video games, creating art with lasers, searching for fossils, using DNA to solve crimes, and mixing up edible slime are just some of the thousands of Summer Science Camp experiences waiting for children from preschool through high school.
For teens, MOSI’s STEAM Career Camps provide students the opportunity to explore careers that utilize STEAM skills through active, project-based experiences with the support of field experts and scientists. Through real-world experiences in a fun, thought-provoking environment, students will make discoveries about STEAM careers in addition to discoveries about their own interests. Students receive a STEAM Certificate of Achievement after successfully completing each of these camps.
More than one hundred MOSI Summer Science Camp sessions are offered from June 13 through August 12, 2016 at the Museum of Science & Industry’s campus at 4801 E. Fowler Avenue in Tampa. Multiple week and multiple child discounts are available, as are a limited number of need-based scholarships. Extended care and hot lunches are offered for an additional fee. For more information, class descriptions, and prices, call 813-987-6000 or visit MOSI.ORG.
MOSI, the Museum of Science & Industry, is Tampa Bay’s community-supported science center. At MOSI, people of all ages (this means you!) can see and do amazing things every day. Ride in the only driverless car open to the public in North America, witness the future in 3D Printing: The Exhibition, experience an immersive film in the Florida Hospital IMAX® DOME Theatre, see the stars in the Saunders Planetarium, have a blast in our Kids In Charge children’s science center, wonder at nature in our BioWorks Butterfly Garden, and defy gravity on our Sky Trail® Ropes Course and Zip Line. MOSI (we pronounce it MOH’-zee) is the largest science center in the Southeast, and a not-for-profit magnet for innovation in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) education where we make a difference in people’s lives by making science real for people of all ages and backgrounds.
