Below is the complete listing of events, happenings and promotions taking place this winter at the Tahoe Donner Cross Country and Downhill Ski Areas as well as the Snowplay Recreation area.
TAHOE DONNER CROSS COUNTRY SKI AREA
Dec. 3 – 16, 2016, Season Passholder “Bring a Friend” Days (conditions permitting). Season passholders may bring as many guests as they like between 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Guests will receive special discounted rates on lift tickets and rentals. Passholder must be present. Dec. 17, 2016, Early Season Skate “Tune-up” Clinic. A great way to learn or brush up on winter tuning techniques to keep your cross country ski equipment dialed all winter. Dec. 25, 2016, Christmas Day. Tahoe Donner Cross Country Ski Area and trails will be open to the public from 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. on Christmas Day. Dec. 28. 2016 and Jan. 8, 2017. Equipment Demo Day. The first opportunity this season to try what’s new in the way of skis, boots, and poles this year. Industry reps will be on site with demo gear for to try and will share their knowledge about how to choose the right equipment. Free event; trail pass required. Dec. 30, 2016, “Caring for your Cross Country Skis” Seminar. Far West Nordic wax guru, Roger Chaney, will be sharing his knowledge about waxing skis for maximum efficiency and performance. Dec. 31, 2016, New Year’s Eve Sunset Snowshoe Tour. Join us for a guided snowshoe hike on the cross country trails followed drinks at the Trailside Bar. A great way to welcome in the new year with the family. 4 – 6 p.m. Dress in warm layers, including hats and gloves, and bring water and a headlamp. January 2017, National Learn to Ski Month. Grab a friend and come learn to ski at Tahoe Donner Cross Country Ski Area. Jan. 16, 2017, Sierra Skogsloppet – Fun Race Fundraiser. This event is organized by local school cross country ski teams as a fundraiser and will start at Tahoe Donner Cross Country Ski Area at 10 a.m. Participants can choose from 15-kilometer, 10-kilometer, 5-kilometer or 2-kilometer races. Races are for all ages and abilities. Participants will receive lunch and be entered into a raffle drawing for prizes donated by friends and businesses that support the school teams. Feb. 11 and March 11, 2017, Full Moon Showshoe Tour. Feb. 14, 2017, Valentine’s Day Sunset Snowshoe Tour. March 26, 2017, Tour D’Euer. This event and tour through Euer Valley has been a spring celebration and tradition for more than 25 years. Ski more trails to earn more raffle tickets for a chance to win cool prizes. After the event, participants can gather on the Alder Creek Adventure Center patio overlooking the meadow for a classic spring barbecue and music. Dec. 25, 2016, Christmas Day Pancake Breakfast with Santa. Who wouldn’t want to dine with Santa himself? Dec. 31, 2016, Light Parade on New Year’s Eve. Come to Tahoe Donner Downhill Ski Area early to secure a spot in the parade. This free event is for intermediate skiers and riders ages 10 or older who can ski or ride unassisted in the dark on the Race Course run. There will be music, plus snacks will be provided in the bar area prior to the parade. Jan. 9 – 13 and 17-20, 2017, Learn to Ski or Snowboard Month. From January 9-13 and 17-20, guests can take advantage of learn to ski or snowboard packages for just $39 as part of National Learn to Ski Month. This package is for first-timers only and includes an all-day lift ticket, rental equipment, and a

Jan. 14 – 16, 2017, Ski and Snowboarding Safety Weekend. Children and adults may participate in many safety-oriented activities around the mountain at Tahoe Donner Downhill Ski Area. From fun scavenger hunts, to a national coloring contest, to snow science and safety, there will be activities for everyone. By participating in safety weekend, participants receive 25 percent off Smith helmets and goggles. Feb. 18 – 25, 2017, Winter Superstars Week. Tahoe Donner Downhill Ski Area is looking for superstars to come out and win some medals! Feb. 25, 2017, Glowstick Parade and Carnival. A kids’ version of a torchlight parade with glowsticks for children ages 10 or younger who can ski or ride unassisted in the dark on our Snowbird run. Participants should plan to come early to secure a spot in the parade. Music and snacks will be provided in the bar area prior to the parade. March 11, 2017, Winter Beach Party. Join Tahoe Donner Downhill Ski Area for some tropical fun, live music, food specials, a snow sculpture contest and games. March 18, 2017, 200-Foot Banana Split Extravaganza. Kids of all sizes will help devour an incredible 200-foot banana split at 1:30 p.m. for free! March 26, 2017, Tahoe Donner Family Challenge. The Family Challenge is a matched time competition raced by family teams at Tahoe Donner Downhill Ski Area. It is a Giant Slalom race, but the time that counts is the difference between first and second runs. The team component is a combined best difference from a child in a family with the best difference from an adult in the family. The winning team gets their name engraved on the trophy in the ski lodge. All children who complete their two runs will earn a medal, and there are other prizes as well. April 1, 2017, Spring Evening Ski Party. The sun is still up, so Eagle Rock chairlift will remain open a little later at Tahoe Donner Downhill Ski Area until 5:45 p.m. Enjoy a barbecue, live music and a special outdoor bar. April 9, 2017, Closing Day and Downhill Dummy Contest. This wacky event is an annual tradition for Tahoe Donner Downhill Ski Area’s end-of-season bash! Enjoy food and beverage specials, a bounce house, live music, and the traditional Downhill Dummy event, in which teams build unique dummies to send sliding down the hill and off a massive jump. This year’s theme is “Cartoon Characters.” Prizes will be awarded for best design, best air and best crash. Full-day lift tickets will be available at half-day rates. Nov. 26, 2016, Light Up the Night. Thanksgiving weekend is a family favorite at Tahoe Donner. After enjoying family time on Thanksgiving Day, get ready for Santa and holiday activities at the 11th annual Tahoe Donner Light Up the Night event at The Lodge Restaurant & Pub. Give back to the community by bringing canned items for the food drive. There will also be a raffle for prizes; proceeds from both will benefit Project MANA. Light Up the Night is from 5 – 7 p.m. with several fun activities, including reindeer games, Santa’s arts and crafts workshop, hot chocolate and s’mores, letters to Santa, storytelling with Mrs. Claus, caroling, meeting Santa and the lighting of the tree.
