The Musebox today announced that new Belgium export VUURWERK will make their SXSW debut this March. Based in Brussels, the Flemish trio have one eye on the past, and the other on the future. According to ClashMusic.com, VUURWERK recall Atoms For Peace and James Holden. The group are aware of industrials roots, yet are willing to experiment while shifting the goalposts. Having recently signed to Londons independent Lo Recordings, VUURWERK will release their new EP Grip in March. A collaboration with Climb X, their first single Wakening will soon be given away via the bands SoundCloud shortly. SXSW will take place in Austin, Texas from March 17-22. More information on VUURWERK is available on their official site.
Having already received attention from NTS Radio London, Boiler Room London, and Fuzz Magazine, the trio behind VUURWERK draw their power from emotional suggestion and tactile sensation. It is the kind of out-of-body experience you feel quite comfortable in, like finding a new skin, and making it fit to your current conventions. Creating a dissonance between dance music and intimacy, VUURWERK aim to drench the club experience in a comfortable haze.
Fueled by a delicately rare DIY IDM esthetic, VUURWERKs recent Me+One vinyl recalls elements of the early VUURWERK EPs released on Kompakt. Me+One was mastered by Sam John (Mount Kimbie, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Aphex Twin.)
The latter part of 2014 saw VUURWERK touring with a new audiovisual installation that mixed ghostly piano work, exotic percussion, and glorifying vocals and including guests such as Max Colombie (Oscar and the Wolf) – all the while filling stages with strobes, haunting visuals, and chaos. The bands appearance at SXSW will represent VUURWERKs first visit to the United States.
