Swedish artist Seinabo Sey will launch her “For Madeleine” U.S. spring tour on May 26 at Underground Arts in Philadelphia, PA. The run, which marks her second headline tour of the States in 2015, will include shows at Webster Hall’s Marlin Room in New York City (May 27), Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg (May 30) and the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles (June 9). See below for itinerary.
“Elegance, thy name is Seinabo Sey,” declared SPIN after catching one of her SXSW showcases. While at the festival, Sey sat down with NPR’s “All Things Considered” for an interview, which can be heard HERE. The New York Times’ Jon Pareles praised the “power and determination in her voice and lyrics” in a review of her Le Poisson Rouge headline show and she was tipped by Rolling Stone as one of the New Artists You Need to Know. Sey was recently named Best New Artist at the GRAMMIS Awards, the Swedish equivalent of the GRAMMY® Awards.
Seinabogrew up in Sweden and Gambia and was introduced to traditional Senegalese and Gambian music by her father, legendary West African musician Maudo Sey. She made her debut with For Madeleine, which is named after her mother. Produced by Magnus Lidehäll(Mapei, Katy Perry), the EP contains the single “Younger,” which Sey performed on “Conan” – her U.S. television debut – and at the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo.
Norwegian producer Kygo’sremix of “Younger” climbed to No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Play chart and has more than 50 million plays on Spotify. The official video for “Younger” can be seen HERE. Originally released via Neon Gold, For Madeleinehas been re-released by Virgin Records and now includes“Younger” (Kygo Remix).
“[‘Younger’] finds itself in the throws of euphoric, trance-infused sonics – but the focus of the song always remains that incredible voice,” said The Guardian. Idolator praised the “broodingly soulful chanteuse” and Billboard observed, “[Sey] sings with a brassy timbre and world-weary swagger that defies both her age and easy artist comparisons.”
