ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (Oct. 16, 2017) — Continuing a decades-long tradition, St. Petersburg City Theatre will usher in the 2017 holiday season with a production of the Charles Dickens classic A Christmas Carol Dec. 8-17.
David Middleton directs the Yuletide family favorite, with performances at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Sundays.
The opening performance on Friday, Dec. 8 will be a special fundraiser for SPCT, with a reception from 6:30-8 p.m. including beer, wine and heavy hors d’oeuvres. Tickets, available soon, will be $50.
“This is the dawn of an exciting new era for our theater,” said SPCT President Mardi Bessolo. “We’re looking forward to the continuation – and expansion – of our core mission, which is to unite our community through enthusiasm for the dramatic arts.”
The theater’s next production, the Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar, is scheduled for March 16-25, 2018. Auditions will be held Sunday, Jan. 7.
The oldest continually-operating community theater in the United States (92 years and counting), St. Petersburg City Theatre is a 501(c)3 not-for profit cultural institution.
In addition to producing several mainstage shows each year, using all-volunteer cast and crew from throughout the St. Petersburg community, SPCT also provides theater education programs for children and teens during the school year, along with summer camps.
