From Elizabeth’s Archives…
An exciting look behind two of Elizabeth’s “Fantasies” BREAKTHROUGH and BREAKING GROUND which were both realized in spectacular fashion! |

From the Action Heroes…
In our version of “Who wore it better,” we’ve been having a blast looking at different STREB pieces and different Action Heroes through the years side-by-side. Like this video of BOUNCE/QUAKE, the image mashup of SQUIRM to the right, TIP v. ROCK, and this compilation of TIED through the years.
A shout out to our graphics and social media manager, former Action Hero Loganne Bond, who has been compiling these amazing visuals!
And finally, Jackie took a moment to tell us when she first realized how special STREB made her feel. |

Alumni Check in…
Leonardo Giron Torres, Action Hero 2007-2017 shared this moving story about how an injury led him to a greater appreciation and perspective of STREB’s impact as he experienced the behind-the-scenes action at one of the company’s grand performances.
We were especially touched by his story since our current shutdown feels akin to us all having one big collective injury, and we too are finding joy in discovering new perspectives and experiences during this time. |
Thank you to Leonardo who took the time to share this story with us from his home in Columbia even as he adjusts to his life as a NEW DAD!
Congratulations Leonardo and Angelica on the birth of Carlo Leone Girón Angulo! We can’t wait to meet this new #NextGenActionHero in person!
If you’re an alum student, action hero, teacher, parent or staff member, we’d love to hear from you! Please reach out to let us know what you’re up to now! |

From the España-STREB Trapeze Academy…
On Thursday, September 17, 7:30 pm, ESTA director Bobby Hedglin-Taylor will serve as Ringmaster for Quarantine Cabaret, a virtual circus production featuring ten artists who have rehearsed, performed, taught and studied at SLAM over the years. Artists will include Chris Delgado (German wheel), Luciany Germán (lyra), Jean-Tae Francis (diabolo), Dialectrick – Ayal Prouser, Mary Schindler & Eitan Prouser (juggling/dance/music), Susanna Morehouse (aerial/hair hanging); Rae of Mars (using bespoke equipment); Polly Solomon (bubble act); Ivory Fox (hand balancing); and Dan Saab (hammock). These artists have recorded their unique “quarantine” performances at their homes over the summer. The broadcast is free to view at SofaCircus.com, with direct Venmo “tip” donations encouraged to help support this community of artists during this difficult time. A Zoom Q&A with the artists will follow. Register HERE for the Q&A to receive the Zoom link.
On our España-STREB Trapeze Academy’s Instagram, we continued sharing some video gems from the past, as well as some inspirational flying stories from our staff and workshop students. Here is Gavi, an ESTA staff alum who helped NY1’s Roger Clark take flight, Kyle, one of our innovative ESTA instructors sharing a new trick he and Fiona are working on, and workshop student Gina with some favorite memories and her “Galexus” (a combination of a Gazelle and a Flexus). |

Social Safety. Artistic Risk. #STREBDaringBeyond!
As we continue into the 2020-2021 season, there is no denying that the continued physical closure of both SLAM and theaters around the world have forced changes and cancellations that will last well into the coming season. Not only is this tremendously disappointing, as we’re a company that thrives on performing, teaching, and collaborating live, it continues to hurt STREB’s finances and operations, creating challenges for our overall stability.
A gift to the Daring Beyond Fund will bolster STREB in the near- and long-term. Your support will help us keep our classes and programs running, and ensure our community has the resources it needs to stay connected – both today and tomorrow.
Thank you for your consideration. We can’t wait to be back in the room with you again. |

Be Counted in Census 2020!
The Census determines federal funding for education, healthcare, public housing, parks, libraries, and culture, plus our number of representatives in Congress — all for the next 10 years. It’s quick and confidential, and each New Yorker represents $3,000 in federal dollars for our city per year.
Go to My2020Census.gov or call 844-330-2020 before September 30 and be counted! |
