SERI plans new initiatives for 2021 and beyond, beginning with the creation of Programs Director position and job posting
Today, SERI primarily pursues its vision of a world with responsible management of used and end-of-life electronics everywhere as the developer of the R2 Standard and the global voluntary R2 certification program. With more than 950 R2 Certified facilities operating in 32 countries, R2 is the most widely adopted standard for responsible reuse and recycling practices for used electronics.
But SERI was built with a bigger mission. True sustainability of our electronics requires a circular economy model in all electronics industry sectors, in all parts of the world, with consideration of the impacts of decisions at every point in the lifecycle of our electronics. The creation of the SERI Programs Director position is the next step towards furthering that mission.
The vision for SERI Programs
Beginning in 2021, SERI will launch a series of initiatives to expand its reach beyond R2 to promote better decision making with electronics through the full lifecycle. The new SERI Programs Director will oversee partnerships, fundraising, and program delivery needed to achieve these ambitious goals. SERI Programs will be a catalyst that brings together global resources to solve the challenges obstructing a truly circular electronics lifecycle.
“We want people to be able to purchase sustainable electronic devices that have a long and useful life, if not multiple lives by many users, and when the usefulness of the device is finally finished can be responsibly recycled to build new products” says Corey Dehmey, SERI’s Executive Director.
“Through SERI Programs, we will leverage the expertise in the R2 network and bring it together with other industries, corporate partners, governments, and civil society to identify bottlenecks, obtain funding, and build capacity around the world so eventually all electronics are circular and there is no more e-waste,” Dehmey said. “Since there are no borders to using electronics, we know there can be no borders to the solutions, and with SERI Programs, we look forward to working with key partners to create even greater social and environmental impact around the world.”
Sustainable Electronics Recycling International (SERI) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization based in the United States with a mission is to help create a world where electronic products are reused and recycled in a way that promotes resource preservation, the well-being of the natural environment, and the health and safety of workers and communities.
