SCD’s new “In Studio Performance Series” presents its second performance with a personal story about Alzheimer’s.

Sarasota Contemporary Dance (SCD) will present its second event in a new In Studio Performance Series, designed as an incubation platform for dance makers at varying stages in their career and creative processes. Conceived by SCD Artistic Director, Leymis Bolaños Wilmott, this series will offer not only a rare experience for choreographers, but also for the Sarasota community to see works in their developmental stages. It is also a unique platform for more seasoned dance makers like Rosanna Tavarez from LA to add SCD on her touring roster and present her full length work, Hybrids of Plants and of Ghosts.

Performances Information:

Friday, March 15 & Saturday, March16 @ 7:00 PM (tickets are $20)

Hybrids of Plants and of Ghosts— is “visceral movement beautifully executed by two performers” in Rosanna Tavarez’ visually striking dance theater work. The piece was inspired by the stamina and spirit of her grandmother, an influential matriarch who was the mother of seven, a street vendor, an immigrant, and a fighter. With poetic interviews and movement, they evoke a beloved figure lost to Alzheimer’s.

SCD’s new In Studio Performance Series launched last month with two sold out performances. “This series is something I am passionate about because I personally know how hard it can be to access rehearsal space and venues to present your work” said Bolaños Wilmott.

Guest choreographer, performer, and teacher, ROSANNA TAVAREZ, is one of six certified Countertechnique® teachers in America and one of 28 in the world. Tavarez also creates her own dance-theatre work in Los Angeles under the moniker LA DANSA DANSA. She received an MFA in Choreography from The Ohio State University and a BFA in Choreography from University of Michigan. She will be teaching and performing at the SCD Home Studio, 1400 Blvd of the Arts, Ste, 300 Sarasota, FL 34236.
