County Extension offers course to aid women farmers

 

SARASOTA COUNTY – Sarasota County UF/IFAS Extension is offering a six-session course created to guide women in making good decisions for their farm businesses.
Annie’s Project is an agricultural business education program that empowers farm and ranch women to be more knowledgeable about their agricultural enterprises
“Women learn best with and from other women, and Annie’s Project takes advantage of that fact by creating a comfortable and supportive learning environment focused on the best risk management practices,” said Dr. Maria Portelos-Rometo, Extension agent for Family and Consumer Sciences.
At the end of six weeks, participants will know more about:
  • Developing a business plan
  • Developing a whole farm plan
  • Farm succession/estate planning
  • Insurance
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Interpreting financial statements
  • Marketing
  • Women and money
  • Record keeping

The six-week course is offered from 5:30-9 p.m. Wednesdays beginning June 17 at the Extension office, 6700 Clark Road, Sarasota, and costs $50 per participant. A light meal will be served at 5:30 p.m. For more information or to register, visit sarasota.ifas.ufl.edu or call 941-861-9900.
