Sarasota County to Host Three Major Niche Sports Events this Month
SARASOTA, Fla. (October 10, 2018) Sarasota County will play host to a variety of niche sport events throughout October. Participants will be traveling to the destination for national and international competitions, as well as an international conference. Visit Sarasota County is thrilled at the opportunity to welcome each of these unique events and their participants.
USA BMX Sunshine State Nationals, Oct. 12-14, 2018
The Sarasota BMX Track will welcome riders from across the US for its first ever USA BMX National race weekend. The Sunshine State National will be the 33rd race in a 36-week series of races held throughout the US and Canada. Pro riders in attendance will include 2016 Olympic gold and silver medalists, Connor Fields and Alise Post, respectively, among many others. Spectator admission is free, and parking is $10 per day.
F18 World Championship Regatta, Oct. 12-19, 2018
The Formula 18 Worlds will take place at the Sarasota Sailing Squadron on City Island, Sarasota, FL, USA from October 15-19, 2018. Over 150 sailors from 14 countries are expected to attend. Racers will be as young as 17 and as old as 70. Several sailors have participated in Olympics; some are preparing to compete in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
2018 eSailing World Championship Final, Oct. 30, 2018
The inaugural eSailing World Championship Final will take place 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2018 at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall. The live gaming event will occur during the 2018 Annual World Sailing Conference, taking place the Hyatt Regency Sarasota Oct. 27 – Nov. 4, 2018. The Conference will be attended by approximately 400 international sailing delegates, coaches, athletes and officials.
World Sailing, the international governing body for the sport of sailing and Virtual Regatta, the leading digital sailing platform, teamed up to launch the new virtual sailing championship series in early May 2018. The top four ranked women and top four men from the series Play Offs will travel to Sarasota on a full-expenses paid trip to compete against the best eSailors in the world. The final will be held in front of a live crowd and streamed worldwide. Local spectators are welcomed and encouraged to attend this one-of-a-kind event. Admission is free.
