SARASOTA COUNTY  Sarasota County Parks and Recreation is offering Junior Trail Rangers Camp at Shamrock and Nature Center, 3900 Shamrock Drive in Venice, Monday through Friday, June 23-27, from 9 a.m. to noon.

The camp is for youths 9 to 12 years old. There are five full scholarships available for the $50 fee due thanks to the Natural Heritage Fund at Gulf Coast Community Foundation and private donors.

Guided by Sarasota County parks naturalists, Junior Trail Rangers will take to the trails and learn about the variety of habitats and wildlife within Shamrock Park and beyond. Daily bike rides from Shamrock Park will lead camp participants to learning stations along The Legacy Trail and the Venetian Waterway Trail.

By the end of camp, Junior Trail Rangers will have completed a bicycle and trail safety course, explored natural areas and historical landmarks, and have a better understanding of how they can help preserve and protect the environment.

Participants should bring their bicycles and helmets, water, a snack, sunscreen and insect repellent and should wear closed-toed shoes and comfortable clothing for cycling. Bicycle storage on-site at Shamrock Park will be available for the week if desired.

For more information, contact the Summer Camp office at 941-861-9870.
