Sarasota County debuts new volunteer registration application
Making it easier for volunteers of all ages to find the right opportunities for them
SARASOTA COUNTY – Because one of Sarasota County’s stated goals is to provide excellent customer service, the county uses thousands of volunteers to supplement its workforce.
They perform hundreds of roles in departments throughout the county, from library book repair to park nature guides. In August, Sarasota County will begin using a new software application call Volgistics to better match volunteers to suitable opportunities and pinpoint the areas of most need.
“Sarasota County provides meaningful volunteer opportunities with flexible hours for people of all ages, whether someone has retired from the workforce or just wants to start a new career,” said Sarasota County Volunteer Coordinator Vickie French. “Volgistics is cloud-based technology that will link users directly from the county’s online volunteer page to specific positions and an online applications.”
The program’s reporting capabilities will allow the county to compile reports about how many volunteers are serving, for how long and at what locations. It will also highlight positions that go unfilled for extended periods of time, said French.
Volunteers will be required to register through Volgistics to volunteer for Sarasota County Government. After signing up, they will be able to record hours and receive automated emails about upcoming volunteer efforts.
Volunteers may access the application via https://www.scgov.net/Volunteer/pages/default.aspx, where they may also review a directory of available opportunities.
