(Sarasota, Florida) Sarasota Concert Association’s free Music Matinee Series continues its season with three gifted, regionally based musicians—Chris Takeda, violin, Jennifer Best Takeda, violin, and Jonathan Spivey, piano—joining forces for a performance of works by Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Bach and Jean-Marie LeClair. The concert is Wednesday, March 22, noon, in David Cohen Hall at the Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center, 709 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. Violinist Chris Takeda joined the Sarasota Orchestra in 2001 and, just a year later, was appointed to the position of associate concert master. An avid chamber musician, Takeda performed with the Arcata String Quartet prior to joining the orchestra. The quartet traveled extensively throughout North America and Europe leading to two CD recordings for VOX Classics and several debut performances including New York City Town Hall, Carnegie Hall and London’s Wigmore Hall.
Violinist Jennifer Best Takeda serves as the assistant concertmaster of the Sarasota Orchestra, and is also a violinist with the Sarasota Piano Quartet. Prior to joining Sarasota Orchestra in 2005, Best Takeda served as concertmaster for the New World Symphony, under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas. Also an active chamber musician, she has performed chamber music in the New York Historical Society and the “Meet the Composers” series at Columbia University, and was a member of Manhattan School of Music’s new music group, Claremont Ensemble, among others. Best Takeda’s vast orchestral experience includes performances with The Florida Orchestra, Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra, North Carolina Symphony, New World Symphony, Naples Philharmonic, New York Chamber Opera, and the Spoleto USA Festival Orchestra.
Joining Chris and Jennifer Best Takeda for their Music Matinees performance, is Sarasota Orchestra principal pianist Jonathan Spivey. Spivey is also a founding member of Tampa’s Arioso Trio and a national finalist in the Music Teachers’ National Association Auditions. Spivey also performs with Belle Canto, the Sarasota Piano Quartet, and has been an associate faculty member of the Sarasota Music Festival since 1992.
The 2016-17 Music Matinee Series season concludes with the swinging big band sounds of the Suncoast Jazz Ambassadors, April 19 at the Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center.
All Music Matinees performances are at noon. All concerts are free and open to the public. Seating is open; no reservations accepted. For more information about the Music Matinee Series, email [email protected] or visit www.scasarasota.org.
