Sarasota Concert Association’s popular free concert series continues its 2016-17 season with a performance by two nationally acclaimed artists.

 

The 2016-17 Sarasota Concert Association’s free Music Matinee Series continues its season with trumpeter Aaron Romm and Steinway artist Avis Romm, piano, Wednesday, December 21, noon, in David Cohen Hall at the Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center, 709 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. The diverse program features standard trumpet, opera and swing pieces, including works by

J.N. Hummel, Rafael Mendez, Harry James, Mozart and Ravel. “Audiences can also expect to hear a holiday carol or two,” says Aaron Romm, adding, “I take on several roles in this concert, and Avis masterfully takes on the role of the entire orchestra!” The concert is free and open to the public. The Music Matinee Series (formerly called Munchtime Musicales) is the Sarasota Concert Association’s long-running, community outreach program presenting accomplished, regionally based musicians who represent a vast array of musical styles, including classical, folk, jazz and pop. The series is coordinated by Sylvia Eckes, a SCA board member.

“It’s rewarding to have the opportunity to support outstanding musicians who live and work in our region—and to offer their performances at no cost to the community,” says Eckes.

Trumpeter Aaron Romm has performed as a soloist in chamber ensembles and orchestras throughout the United States, Europe, and Mexico. A native of Sarasota, Romm recently returned to his hometown after earning his master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. As an ambitious performer, Romm is always developing new performance projects a soloist and chamber musician, most notably with the internationally renowned Romm Family Trio. Steinway Performing Artist Avis Romm dazzles audiences as a soloist, chamber musician, and collaborative pianist. Avis Romm maintains an active teaching studio and is in demand as a contest adjudicator. She is highly respected in the field of opera, having coached, directed, conducted and performed in hundreds of opera productions internationally. Avis Romm has worked extensively with the Sarasota Opera, both as a musical/vocal coach and pianist/conductor and she performs regularly with internationally renowned soloists.

The 2016-17 Music Matinee concert season continues with Studio Artists from the Sarasota Opera, Sarasota’s ambassadors of opera who bring the art form to stages beyond the walls of the Opera House (January 18 at the Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center); the Lyric Duo, featuring Alison Brown Sincoff, flute and piccolo, and Gail Berenson, piano (February 15 at the Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center); Sarasota Orchestra violinists Christopher Takeda and Jennifer Best Takeda (March 22 at the Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center); and the swinging big band sounds of the Suncoast Jazz Ambassadors (April 19 at the Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center).
